the driver's side sun visor will not stay up. repeated attempts to get the local toyota dealer to fix the problem resulted in them saying that it is not covered by the warranty. this is a safety issue. the visor could fall enough to block the driver's vision. also, in the event of an accident the driver's forehead would be propelled into the edge of a sun visor that is partially down causing a possible serious head injury. this issue should be a safety recall.

i purchased a certified used 2010 toyota prius from the east coast⿿s number one certified used toyota dealer. i was presented with papers showing all the checks performed with a certified used toyota and that the vehicle i was purchasing had pass all the inspections. i test drove the vehicle during the day and did not use the headlights. once i was home (over 3 hours away) i used the headlights for the first time in the next few days. the driver⿿s side lights were very dim. i took the low beam bulb out and notice a lot of corrosion on the bulb and moisture in the headlamp assembly. i let it dry out and replaced both the drivers and passenger side low beam light bulbs. over the summer i noticed a few time moisture would build up but would be gone within a few days. now during the winter the moisture has frozen inside the driver side headlamp assembly and impedes on the effectiveness of the headlamp. my visibility is reduced and has now become a safety issue. i have not owned the vehicle for a full year yet and even purchased the top of the line extended toyota warranty. my local dealer stated it was not covered under any warranty and that would cost around $500 to be replaced. toyota has a technical service bulletin on this issue and should repair at no cost to owners due to a safety hazard.

the windshield of the fj cruiser seems to be unusually susceptible to pitting under normal driving conditions. when the sun or oncoming headlights shine on the windshield it becomes extremely difficult to see the road. the windshield suddenly appears to be dirty and translucent. reference vehicle is a toyota certified used vehicle. in overcast conditions the windshield is fine and appears fine from a distance. however, closer inspection reveals massive pitting that appears at first like dirt. inspection of the hood paint, roof, wiper arms, plastic headlight lenses and trim reveal no similar damage. online forums seem to confirm this and owners previously driving the same routes and using vehicles with very flat windshields such as jeeps seem to be reporting that this problem is new to them after purchasing the fj cruiser. many report they have had to replace the windshield numerous times for pitting. i have vehicles with over 200k miles on them with no such apparent pitting. this seems to be a weakness with the glass and is very dangerous when light hits it and the road ahead is near impossible to see. here is one online thread: http://www.fjcruiserforums.com/forums/general-discussion/38932-windshield-pitted.html

i started to feel sticky spots on the top-side dashboard facing windshield. the soft, sticky spots were accumulating light-colored dust over the past year. they were not greasy, but extremely sticky and tacky to the touch. the accumulated dust was not cleanable or able to be removed without damaging dashboard material. (i rubbed off the top layer of plastic trying to gently clean with a wet poly towel). they were starting to reflect off my windshield during daytime driving. i ignored this issue for a while but lately noticed the interior glare is getting worse toward the front of my dashboard at the windshield junction. it's especially present on bright days where the sun is high up. this is presenting a potentially serious safety issue with regards to outward driving visibility. toyota has been contacted and i started a problem case with them. i am awaiting further instructions on what toyota wants to do next with my vehicle. a special "warranty enhancement" has been started to address this "cosmetic concern." please look into this potentially serious safety issue to ensure toyota is addressing this problem appropriately and expeditiously for owners.

a "sticky" and cracking dashboard from florida heat causes a huge glare on the windshield. this makes visibility extremely limited while driving. i have not used any cleaning or polishing products on the dashboard. i am convinced it is just from high temperatures and humidity over time. after noticing the problem i tried to reduce direct sunlight on the dashboard by using windshield covers; however, the dash still remained "sticky" and the covers just simply stuck to the dash. the issue used to only occur when it was hot outside, but now the dash has been "melted" so much so that it has become glossy. which means even in cooler temperatures the dash reflects any sunlight and causes a glare on the windshield. again, this issue highly decreases visibility while driving. it is often difficult to perform the easiest maneuvers simply because you cannot see. i have even bought expensive polaroid sunglasses to somewhat reduce the glare, but visibility is still difficult. i am concerned about this issue, because it can easily cause an accident which could have been prevented. please let me know the best way to handle the situation. thank you for your help. *tr

the sun visor is badly designed and does not stay up. affects both driver and passenger side visors. for a tall driver like myself this is a security risk since it limits outwards visibility. the view of traffic light and road signs mounted high is impeded. the loose and flapping visor in line of sight also constitute a distraction which is in itself a hazard.

while driving with sun shining into my eyes, i pulled down the sun visor but it broke and failed to stay in position any more. the sun visor just hang downward to block my vision and i had to use one hand to hold it up while driving. this is a big safety concern with the broken sun visor on the driver side. driver have to hold the sun visor with one hand and leave one hand to drive. this impact the safety in driving.

i closed the trunk door, and the back light glass (rear window) completely shattered. when this occurred, the glass was not cracked and we were not in extreme temperatures (it was about 65 degrees). i took it to the toyota dealership, and the service guy said it's "impossible" for the glass to break as it did. it's obviously not impossible if it can happen with normal closing of the trunk door. vehicle was purchased new less than a year ago.

the drivers side visor does not stay up..at first it was slightly loose around 50k miles and then 70k the visor no longer stays up at all. i have actually hit my head on it a couple of times and it obscures my vision. i cannot believe this has not been recalled. now i have to pay $100 to buy a completely new one. this is just an accident and a lawsuit waiting to happen. it looks to be a problem for a lot of toyotas. my fiance cant even drive it right now because he is taller than i am and cannot see out of it properly. please recall this so it doesnt cause a tragedy at some point.

moonroof exploded while in the middle of the san mateo bridge. immediately heard wind noise coming from the moonroof (the shade fortunately was drawn). i saw no obvious gravel on the bridge and no vehicles in my immediate vicinity that might account for it. thought for a second that something dropped off a landing plane and realized that something like that would have easily punched through the shade. i examined the damage less than ten minutes later when i arrived at my destination. saw shattered glass and a hole that was almost centered. found no marks on the top side of the shade to indicate an object hitting. the edges of the hole tilted upwards. temperature at the time is estimated to be low 60s, sunny, and no discernible wind. inside temp was set at 67 or 68 and the fan was set on the low 2 setting. my husband examined the car when i returned home about 3 1/2 hours later. he searched through the shattered glass and found no objects. he tested the tilted edge to see what flexibility it had when i asked if air flow might have distorted the opening in the glass. it was quite stiff and he said that was unlikely. he (phd in engineering) concluded that there was no evidence of an object and commented the moonroof appeared as if it shattered upwards due to structural stress. i have a number of photos of the damage, one taken 10 minutes afterwards, the rest when i returned home. the toyota representative is holding on to the rock theory.

i am reporting two issues with my highlander. the first is in regards to the brake system. while looking at another complaint that had been filed, i realized that my car did the same thing. brakes become momentarily unresponsive when stopping. car lurches forward and additional force is needed on pedal to regain control. i copied word for word what the other person wrote, as that describes it perfectly. my second complaint regards the windshield wipers. the wiper on the left has stopped working well, and will not wipe back and forth properly on the window. it stops or gets stuck mid-wipe, obscuring my vision. it is very dangerous, and i am having them repaired tomorrow. thank you.
