Hyundai Elantra 2013

Safety incident date:

noticed when i test drove this vehicle in april 2013 when it hit small bumps in the road it seemed unsteady in the back. thought it was just the dynamics of a new vehicle i would get used to. i'm used to driving dynamics of small vehicles. there have been a few times where i've been driving at speeds between 20-70mph when i hit a bump on a straight/curved road and vehicle would shake wildly and feel like it was out of control. today we have snow covered/slushy roads and i've been particularly cautious. at ~60mph on i70 (which was clear and plowed), i moved to the passing lane to go around a slower vehicle before a creek bridge. when i hit the edge of the bridge i completed the maneuver, but a small lip on the section of bridge meeting the road caused the vehicle to fishtail and almost hit the vehicle next to me. i was fighting for control of the vehicle for 300 feet, which is worse than i have ever experienced in this vehicle, hence the reason i wrote this complaint. it felt like another experience i had in a fiat with a bent rear axle, every time it would hop over a bump it would wobble in the back end and yet it felt slightly different because i couldn't correct it quickly when the car should have settled. from reading other people's complaints, it seems plausible that the problem with the elantra may in fact be in the front end with the power steering auto-correct to center. that is what it felt like i was fighting those 300 feet, not the dynamics of the four wheels not being square on the road, but instead like as if the car was fighting me. something needs to be done because i could have lost control with kids in the car. judging from other people's experiences with their dealers on the issue, what is the point if they're just going to give us the run-around and inconvenience us even more by withholding our vehicles and then giving them back without a fix? *tr

started to back my vehicle out of the driveway and heard a loud grinding noise. stopped, got out and inspected to find that the front right coil spring had snapped and punctured my tire. vehicle is undrivable and had to be towed. there was absolutely no warning. i have read dozens of other complaints about this same thing happening on other 2005 hyundais. hyundai really needs to look into this problem/defect. thankfully, i was not driving at 55 mph on a highway as i'm sure serious injury/damage would have occurred. *tr

the purpose of this letter is to request nhtsa to include 2008 hyundai entourage vehicles from the state of virginia in the agency's recall and repair authorization, nhtsa campaign number 13v556000, components suspension, and/or front lower control arm corrosion,Ł dated november 06, 2013. i am the original owner of a 2008 hyundai entourage, purchased in the state of virginia, with the exact mechanical problems delineated in the agencys recall and repair notice and authorization. although i lived in virginia, i worked in washington, dc, and traveled extensively in the salt beltŁ states of maryland, new york, pennsylvania, and washington, dc, as noted in the agencys recall and repair authorization. critically important, the state of virginia has the exact weather conditions as west virginia. to include the state of west virginia in the recall and repair authorization and not virginia is nonsensical or preposterous. 2008 hyundai entourages from virginia have had as much exposure to the corrosive and harmful impact of road salt and waterŁ as other vehicles designated in the agency's recall and repair report of november 06, 2013, campaign 13v556000. *tr

while driving the car the wheel and assembly broke free from the frame of the car which was completely rusted and dropped the car to the ground pushed the wheel assembly wheel well. after researching the make and model their is a recall pertaining to this issue but only applies to the salt belt. my car was originally sold and operated in virginia for 7 years. this issue with the sub frame is the exact same issue as the recall but due to the car not being titled in the salt belt, even though it was driven through the so called salt belt, hyundai is saying it is not covered under the recall. i believe all cars that experience this issue should be covered under the warranty as it is a major safety issue. i was lucky i wasn't going fast as it could have jeopardized my life or anyone else's that was traveling on the road. *tr

Hyundai Veloster 2013

Nov 04, 2013

the 2013 hyundai veloster turbo has a torsion beam rear suspension that when combined with the factory 18" wheels and stock kumho solus tires gives the car very unpredictable and dangerous handling characteristics over bumps where the rear of the car feels like it is "stepping out." after talking to 5 hyundai dealerships and having them perform various alignment attempts and technical service bulletins for road force balancing to improve the problem, it was still not corrected and nearly resulted in numerous crashes in the 1st year off ownership. after so many attempts to fix the issue and not having it resolved and seeing numerous other reports of it on forums and other review sites, i am convinced that there is a concerted effort to hide the problem and have made the difficult decision to file this complaint. even the hyundai service manager who most recently drove my car said "i felt it and i don't know what to do about it." this was after the factory technician at the same dealership felt the issue and said "it is a very light car so it will just do that" and when i replied that a same year volkswagen jetta with the same rear suspension design did nothing of the sort and even another model in the hyundai line (elantra) did not have the same issue, he didn't reply. most dangerous of all is if a rear tire becomes deflated at all on a snowy or icy surface. in my situation an left rear tire went down a few pounds and the car swerved much more wildly than most other cars would a little low on air. i went a year without letting anyone else drive the car out of safety concerns until i finally put winter tires on it in 2014 in a 17" size and felt an immediate resolution to the issue (so far) with both improved grip and over the road/ bump response. the factory low beams are dangerously dim also, again numerous complaints at numerous hyundai dealer(s) ignored. *tr

drove new 2014 santa fe sport 2.0t for the first time on the highway after buying it 3 days earlier. the vehicle would not maintain a straight path while driving at highway speed. sf required continuous correction at a varying degree. it is not only that the vehicle wonders, but it does so mildly and aggressively. the vehicle tends to sway and rock all while trying to correct for the continuous wondering. it's a very odd sensation that occurs, just when you think you might go straight for a bit the vehicle will dart to one side and it has no rhythm or reason. sometimes left sometimes right and the road crown plays no part in the direction. dealer aligned all 4 wheels twice. added toe in and camber to the rear. also, replaced rear springs and shocks. turns out one of the springs was shorter than the other by 1/4" causing the suspension to be unbalanced. this repair helped for some of the unexplained rocking but now that it is fixed the whole steering issue has been exacerbated. i don't feel safe in the vehicle and intend on selling it. currently, it has 11k miles. i logged another complaint with hyundai customer service today too. the fact that potential buyers rarely get to drive the new car for more than 7-10 miles and at speeds rarely above city is a disservice. if hyundai knows this problem exists and government oversight knows, than it is deceitful and dishonest. lastly, this vehicle behaves in the same manner as one with worn out ball joints that would not pass a state safety inspection. yet these santa fes are still being sold. it's a wolf in sheep's clothing. buyer beware! *tr

vehicle does not stay in a straight line. i've had alignment issues before with other cars where it pulled to one side but this car is all over the place on the interstate. i constantly have to correct the steering wheel which is exhausting after 20 mins. sometimes left sometimes right. also suspension integrity is questionable when hitting bumps the car seems to bounce up and cause you to lose control for a quick second. why is the government allowing this!???????? went to dealer first they said nothing was wrong then a few months later they magically had new alignment specs which the did and it stills wonders. *tr

the alignment has been bad on this car since i bought the car. my tires wore out at 28000. the outer edge of the tires are bold when i first took it in they blamed the roads. the car has always pulled to the right. i have to keep pressure on the steering wheel at all time to keep the car going straight. i took the car in after my tires wore out and they charged me $99 for an alignment, which i was happy to pay if they could fix it. when i got the car back, i had to hold the steering wheel off center to keep the car straight. i took the car back, they made a small adjustment but are now blaming the road again. then they said there was a scratch on my wheel which i recently got and they blamed the alignment issue on that. that doesn't explain the alignment issue for the first 27000 miles. i like hyundai. i have a santa fe and i used to own another one but i have a feeling i am going to be selling my 2012 azera in the very near future. *tr
