noticed when i test drove this vehicle in april 2013 when it hit small bumps in the road it seemed unsteady in the back. thought it was just the dynamics of a new vehicle i would get used to. i'm used to driving dynamics of small vehicles. there have been a few times where i've been driving at speeds between 20-70mph when i hit a bump on a straight/curved road and vehicle would shake wildly and feel like it was out of control. today we have snow covered/slushy roads and i've been particularly cautious. at ~60mph on i70 (which was clear and plowed), i moved to the passing lane to go around a slower vehicle before a creek bridge. when i hit the edge of the bridge i completed the maneuver, but a small lip on the section of bridge meeting the road caused the vehicle to fishtail and almost hit the vehicle next to me. i was fighting for control of the vehicle for 300 feet, which is worse than i have ever experienced in this vehicle, hence the reason i wrote this complaint. it felt like another experience i had in a fiat with a bent rear axle, every time it would hop over a bump it would wobble in the back end and yet it felt slightly different because i couldn't correct it quickly when the car should have settled. from reading other people's complaints, it seems plausible that the problem with the elantra may in fact be in the front end with the power steering auto-correct to center. that is what it felt like i was fighting those 300 feet, not the dynamics of the four wheels not being square on the road, but instead like as if the car was fighting me. something needs to be done because i could have lost control with kids in the car. judging from other people's experiences with their dealers on the issue, what is the point if they're just going to give us the run-around and inconvenience us even more by withholding our vehicles and then giving them back without a fix? *tr

on october 11, 2013 i was driving vehicle at about 30 mph. the traction, brake, and check engine light started flashing. the engine started to accelerate & decelerate at random and vehicle jerked (intermittently) all mentioned lights then stayed on constantly. vehicle was driven to dealership. dealership scan tested & found steering angle sensor code in history, then recalibrated steering angle sensor. vehicle was also serviced for recall regarding lower control arm (replaced). 2nd incident occurred on 10/22/13. i started car in the morning, and all the lights came on. vehicle was shut off and then towed to same dealer. service technician could not "duplicate" code. i was told by service that car was fine/operable. 3rd incident occurred on 10/23/13. i was driving and vehicle brake light, & trac light came on. car was again jerking/surging and accelerating and decelerating at random. vehicle scanned by technician and multiple "can" codes and steering angle sensor communication code found in history. technician called technical assistance and was advised to replace motor driven power steering unit, replaced steering column with power steering unit, all ok after repairs (per dealer). rental car charge incurred totaling $26.28. 4th incident occurred on 1/2/14. i was driving vehicle and traction control lights, brake light, and abs brake started flashing. trac light then stayed on constantly. car began jerking (again) and accelerated/decelerating. vehicle taken to different dealership. service writer test drove car while i was in vehicle, and stated there was something definitely wrong w/vehicle and that it wasn't safe to drive. rental car obtained. technician looked at car, called support, and was told to charge hybrid battery. service writer called back and stated that car was ready to be picked up. i refused to pick car... *tr

my daughter was driving in a rain storm and lost her power steering. the eps (electronic power steering) light illuminated. she was lucky she didn't get into an accident. she pulled over to the shoulder, turned her car off, then started it again. the eps light went out and the power steering was again working. i performed an internet search and found numerous complaints concerning the hyundai eps system. this is a serious safety hazard and a recall should be issued immediately to correct the problem. *tr

we had our vehicle warrantied for the rotten frame on our vehicle last year. at that point you would think hyundai would have warned us that our brake lines were swiss cheese just like our frame, these cars rot out, the entire vehicle is a death trap. the brake lines broke 3 times in the past 6 months after sections were already replaced. these vehicles need all the brake and fuel lines replaced immediately!!! this is not routine maintenance and should be recalled immediately!! the power steering line rotted out 5 years ago, this car was made out of really crappy metal. dangerous vehicle. everything on this vehicle is rotted out beyond what is normal, the wheels, the brake drums, everything on these vehicles rot to the point of swiss cheese. after 10 years these vehicles are very unsafe. our vehicle only has 50,000 miles on it. *tr

power steering failed and eps light illuminated. condition cleared upon stopping vehicle, and restarting it. this continued intermittently (maybe 10-15 instances, often with months between occurrences) until october (182900 miles), when eps failed to reset. speed was not a consistent factor; eps would deactivate at any speed - including as low as 20 mph. especially if/when occurring at highway speed, this is a serious safety concern. i have seen similar eps complaints for this model/year reported on various tech forums and am concerned that my experience was not an isolated incident. dealer replaced steering column to resolve issue. *tr

the dealer replaced the steering column to resolve escalating problems with electronic power steering that failed intermittently and would no longer reset after turning the vehicle off and restarting the engine, rendering the vehicle inoperable. 127 miles after completion of the steering column replacement, the power steering again failed yesterday evening while entering the highway during rush hour. i reiterate my statement from the prior incident(s) that this is a serious safety issue - not only to the driver of the vehicle, but to other drivers as well. this long-time hyundai promoter is about to become a detractor. *tr

driving my new 2013 hyundai sonata 2.0t, i know there is definitely something wrong with the electric power steering (eps) on the car. my car just keeps wandering when driving over 45 mph on freeway. it will keep wandering to the left and to the right. it requires constant correction to keep my car in the lane and the steering wheel is extremely sensitive. when the car wanders to the left, i would try to correct it back to center, but it won't stay straight and it wanders to the right after correction. driving in a straight line is near impossible. it often goes into the other lane next to me and i have almost hit the car next to me. it is scary and very dangerous. i have taken it to the dealer 3 times and they tell me there is a software glitch, they keep saying it is fixed but it is not. they have performed several alignments and it is not the issue. it is something wrong with the 2013 hyundai sonata's steering that is controlled by the car's computer. please request hyundai to recall the eps system and software before many people get hurt from this. thank you. *tr

following email sent to hyundai dear sir: i have a 2011 vercruz with 27499 miles that i have loved until january 19, 2014. while traveling at 50mph, the car suffered catastrophic loss of all electrical power: no power straining, no power brakes, no engine power. it could not be restarted. by researching the net, i have learned that this problem has been described many times before. an oil gasket leaks that drips oil on the alternator producing loss of all electrical power and a dead engine. my dealer, l------n hyundai, did the repair work, only charging me for the depleted battery. nor were tow charges reimbursed. they concluded that oil had leaked from the gasket, destroying the alternator. i regard this has a serious safety issue. if the problem recurs for me, or for others; serious injury or loss of life could result. i request that you issue a national recall and permanent fix for this problem. i will be contacting the national highway traffic safety administration. *tr ------ ---------

drove new 2014 santa fe sport 2.0t for the first time on the highway after buying it 3 days earlier. the vehicle would not maintain a straight path while driving at highway speed. sf required continuous correction at a varying degree. it is not only that the vehicle wonders, but it does so mildly and aggressively. the vehicle tends to sway and rock all while trying to correct for the continuous wondering. it's a very odd sensation that occurs, just when you think you might go straight for a bit the vehicle will dart to one side and it has no rhythm or reason. sometimes left sometimes right and the road crown plays no part in the direction. dealer aligned all 4 wheels twice. added toe in and camber to the rear. also, replaced rear springs and shocks. turns out one of the springs was shorter than the other by 1/4" causing the suspension to be unbalanced. this repair helped for some of the unexplained rocking but now that it is fixed the whole steering issue has been exacerbated. i don't feel safe in the vehicle and intend on selling it. currently, it has 11k miles. i logged another complaint with hyundai customer service today too. the fact that potential buyers rarely get to drive the new car for more than 7-10 miles and at speeds rarely above city is a disservice. if hyundai knows this problem exists and government oversight knows, than it is deceitful and dishonest. lastly, this vehicle behaves in the same manner as one with worn out ball joints that would not pass a state safety inspection. yet these santa fes are still being sold. it's a wolf in sheep's clothing. buyer beware! *tr

vehicle does not stay in a straight line. i've had alignment issues before with other cars where it pulled to one side but this car is all over the place on the interstate. i constantly have to correct the steering wheel which is exhausting after 20 mins. sometimes left sometimes right. also suspension integrity is questionable when hitting bumps the car seems to bounce up and cause you to lose control for a quick second. why is the government allowing this!???????? went to dealer first they said nothing was wrong then a few months later they magically had new alignment specs which the did and it stills wonders. *tr
