when braking, the car self-accelerates. there is no predicting when this will happen- sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. this has occurred approximately twenty times when i have started/stopped the car while parking and also once on a busy highway when i was unable to stop for a red light. when this happens, my foot is on the brake, but the car accelerates. the car has been to the ciocca hyundai dealer in quakertown, pa three times. they've kept it as long as three days. they tried to duplicate the problem and i was told it did not occur. they've told me that they've never heard of a problem like this. they checked out the car and told me that nothing is wrong. the problem has been reported to hyundai- regional case #6004610 and case #6342874. after filing there's nothing that can be done besides file the report with the regional representative. i've been fortunate that no one has been injured so far. my family members will not ride in the car with me. the car currently has 5,700 miles on it. it is a killer car- an accident waiting to happen.

i was driving at 45 mph approaching an intersection and observed the traffic signal turn red. i applied the brakes and the pedal freely sunk to the floor while i had no braking power. i let up on the brake pedal and pumped the pedal and after several pumps had weak braking. i was able to stop after rolling partly into the intersection. while at a stop, i then pumped the brake pedal and noted i had braking power but the pedal would fall all the way down under continuous pressure. i was able to drive home cautiously noting the same situation with the brake pedal. *tr

in october while the car was at the dealer for service they asked me wait a few more minutes and explained they were replacing the brake fluid. within a month of that service i started noticing a soft peddle which turned to a to the floor pedal on occasions. finally in late dec 13 it got very bad and the brakes were unresponsive and took a great deal of pressure to activate from time to time. i brought the car to the dealer today under a new recall i just received regarding brake fluid replacement. they replaced the fluid and bled the system, they said they were not satisfied with the result and continued to look for another issue. they found the mast cylinder was leaking. the tech took me on the side and said the fluid that was in there attracted metal shavings that probably caused the master cylinder seal to fail. they would not let me drive the car home and gave me a loaner. *tr

on october 11, 2013 i was driving vehicle at about 30 mph. the traction, brake, and check engine light started flashing. the engine started to accelerate & decelerate at random and vehicle jerked (intermittently) all mentioned lights then stayed on constantly. vehicle was driven to dealership. dealership scan tested & found steering angle sensor code in history, then recalibrated steering angle sensor. vehicle was also serviced for recall regarding lower control arm (replaced). 2nd incident occurred on 10/22/13. i started car in the morning, and all the lights came on. vehicle was shut off and then towed to same dealer. service technician could not "duplicate" code. i was told by service that car was fine/operable. 3rd incident occurred on 10/23/13. i was driving and vehicle brake light, & trac light came on. car was again jerking/surging and accelerating and decelerating at random. vehicle scanned by technician and multiple "can" codes and steering angle sensor communication code found in history. technician called technical assistance and was advised to replace motor driven power steering unit, replaced steering column with power steering unit, all ok after repairs (per dealer). rental car charge incurred totaling $26.28. 4th incident occurred on 1/2/14. i was driving vehicle and traction control lights, brake light, and abs brake started flashing. trac light then stayed on constantly. car began jerking (again) and accelerated/decelerating. vehicle taken to different dealership. service writer test drove car while i was in vehicle, and stated there was something definitely wrong w/vehicle and that it wasn't safe to drive. rental car obtained. technician looked at car, called support, and was told to charge hybrid battery. service writer called back and stated that car was ready to be picked up. i refused to pick car... *tr

as i was exiting the highway, the brakes went almost all the way to the floor. the rest of the trip i needed to pump the brakes to enable me to stop. i took it the hyundai dealer the next day and they said it there was a recall for the abs module. i had the dot4 fluid recall done on december 3rd 2013 (up until then i had never had a brake issue) and apparently the abs module recall came out dec 20, 2013. the dealer replaced the module under warranty and now the car brakes fine. i just wanted to document the failure. *tr

the brakes failed to properly stop my 2010 hyundai veracruz while driving on a primary arterial road. there was no indication of any brake failure or warning light prior to this braking failure. brakes were working fine in stop and go traffic just prior to the failure. the brakes were applied for stopped traffic and the vehicle failed to stop. this resulted in a front to rear end collision at an approximate speed between 5 and 10 mph. there were no skid marks and during braking the brake pedal did not indicate that the abs was active (no pulsating of the pedal). the air bag deployed from the drivers steering wheel without injury to the driver of the hyundai. there were no other passengers in the hyundai nor in the impacted vehicle. the driver of the impacted vehicle did not seek immediate medical attention but did complain of back and neck pain. the front end of the hyundai has extensive damage, including frame damage, radiator damage, and engine damage. the impacted vehicle (a late 1960's truck) has rear bumper and frame damage. after discussions with both the investigating officer and the body shop owner, i contacted the local hyundai dealership and tried to speak with the service manager. i have left two (2) voicemail messages to date (both the day of the accident) and have not received a return phone call. this dealership had just completed the brake switch recall work on this vehicle on 12/24/13, including a complete inspection of the vehicle. nothing other than normal tire wear was reported on the dealership's inspection report. i am very concerned that there is a braking problem with this vehicle. when the dealership returns my call, i will ask hyundai for a full investigation of the accident, a review of the on-board computer, and any other diagnostics that can be retrieved from the vehicle. i also intend to contact hyundai direct with my concerns. *tr

rear driver size pads and rotors had to be replace when the car only had 14k miles. rear pads and rotors have to be replaced every 5-6 months. the brakes were burning and smoking. dealer says its normal wear and tear. took car to another repair shop and was told this is not normal and brake pads and rotors should not have to be repaired every 5-6 months, the braking system is faulty and if not repaired it could cause the brakes to fail. *tr

we had our vehicle warrantied for the rotten frame on our vehicle last year. at that point you would think hyundai would have warned us that our brake lines were swiss cheese just like our frame, these cars rot out, the entire vehicle is a death trap. the brake lines broke 3 times in the past 6 months after sections were already replaced. these vehicles need all the brake and fuel lines replaced immediately!!! this is not routine maintenance and should be recalled immediately!! the power steering line rotted out 5 years ago, this car was made out of really crappy metal. dangerous vehicle. everything on this vehicle is rotted out beyond what is normal, the wheels, the brake drums, everything on these vehicles rot to the point of swiss cheese. after 10 years these vehicles are very unsafe. our vehicle only has 50,000 miles on it. *tr

brake pedal went to floor. very difficult to stop vehicle. this is an intermittent problem and does not happen all the time. typically has occurred once or twice per month. this continues even after having the master cylinder replaced and filling a complaint with the nhtsa. hyundai checked the hecu module under their recall campaign #114 and states the hecu is within specs. however, since this is an intermittent issue they cannot diagnosis the problem until it fails. cannot drive vehicle as we cannot predict next time this failure will occur. *tr

it was the first snow storm in nj. i was driving, got a red light and was slowing down the car. there were a couple of cars stopping at red light. my car was almost stopped also but the last moment, the brake wouldn't work and just helplessly slid and hit the car in front of me. i was the first time i got an accident and there were so many small accidents around so i thought it was my mistake somehow. but afterwards, i get similar issues and i don't feel safe any more. my car is just one year old. i have been driving for 10 years, never had this kind of issue before. *tr

driving elantra touring 2010 ( with less than 28500 miles) in a local street, and all of sudden the vehicle stopped immediately before the turn signal and unable to operate the steering. there were several lights, including the "esc" was on. it is really scary when vehicle stopped responding while driving on the street. i am not sure any recall available to remediate this dangerous problem. *tr

had a recall on brake light switch, (campaign 110) took it to hyundai dealer nassief in jefferson, switch supposedly replaced. notified them that problem was recurring which was turn signal light would light on dash when pedal was depressed, and it progressed to external right rear turn signal wouldlight when braking, or dash lites would lite, then blower motor would work intermittently and finally the right external turn light would light when braking.. sometimes it was one condition, and others a variable of many or all conditions.. which did not exist until the brake lite switch was replaced by nassief hyundai. *tr

this has happened a total of 4 times since i have owned the car. the first happened a few months after purchasing the car, when trying to stop from 40mph at a red light. the brakes failed and i ran the red light avoiding any accident. i drove approximately 25 more miles with no occurrence the rest of the way home. next morning when driving into the gas station as i hit the driveway entrance approximately 15mph i was braking and then brakes went to the floor and i had to pump the brakes several times before the pressure came back and i finally stopped. i turned around drove it to the dealer with no other issues along the 8 mile drive. dealer checked all normal issues drove it themselves and were not able to find ?duplicate the complaint?. approximately 8 months later after driving 25 miles on the freeway i was exiting my exit to work slowing down at approximately 30mph while braking and slowing down the brakes went to the floor and all pressure was lost i pumped the brakes and they worked. 2 weeks ago i was driving surface streets and while slowing down to make a right at a red light at about 30mph the brakes failed i had to pump the brakes again to regain pressure and i stopped as i rounded the corner into the cross walk. i have not been able to get it into the dealer yet. i have been driving a different car and parked this one until my schedule allows me to take it to the dealer. i have been looking on the hyundai forums for information and this appears to be on the forums a lot. several have resulted in accidents, even a total loss of one person?s car. the forums are saying that there is a voluntary recall and it has to do with the master cylinder, dealer replaces as the complaints come in. i guess i will find out. *tr

during merge onto a major dallas tollway, traffic became stopped in the right lane and upon applying a hard brake of my car, the anti-lock brakes failed to engage, the seatbelt did not lock, my car felt as though it was accelerating even though i was pressing the brake pad hard. i hit the car in front of me once and then again before my car stopped, still running. my car sustained $8500 in damage to the front end, but the air bag did not even deploy. i have owned it for 15 months and have not had an issue of this nature in the past, however i am now concerned of the safety of this vehicle. *tr
