my brake system fails often when braking. it as though the brakes stop working for a split second, similar to how it can feel when the antilock brakes come on skipping some if on ice. but this is occurring on dry pavement. when i brought this in to ford they said they could not find an issue, but said the brakes on the ford 2008 are not the greatest so i should probably get them replaced and this may solve the problem. i allowed the front brakes to be changed, the problem is still occurring. my car has less than 30,000 miles on it. i have noticed that each time when i feel the brakes slip, the abs active/traction control light comes on in my car. has there been others complaining of this same issue? *tr

my 2002 ford windstar instrument cluster has illuminated the red brakelight yellow abs lights and the trac off symbol sporadically since last summer this is consistent with information i found in a current nhtsa investigation. i have also read about other windstar owners with similar issues. sadly, they have had disastrous outcomes (vehicle fires and structure fires). there is no sign of brake fluid below brake fluid reservoir. lights come on and do not always reappear right away when the engine is turned back on. seems to be linked with exterior temperature - on days that are warm, the lights illuminate more frequently. on days that are cold, they are less likely to be illuminated. did not happen at all during this past winter. as i stated, this has been going on for quite some time (almost a year) first noticed it last summer (2008) with 105,000 miles on the vehicle. currently 135,000 miles on odometer. i have not parked the vehicle in the garage since last summer fearing a the possibility of a fire. *tr

advance traction control system light started flashing on dashboard. the car started braking and couldn't go over 20 mph. thank goodness i was only going 25 mph at the time. i called ford dealer who gave me no help. i brought to my regular mechanics and they said there were no codes that showed up, but there is a technical service bulletin tsb07-10-11. this describes it as a "nuisance". it is more like a safety problem. i am scared to drive it with my children in the car. if you look on www.fordforum.com, you'll see many more people who feel this way. *tr

outrageous ,i have been researching the possible problem of an abs/brake light ,that keeps coming on in my 2001 ford wind star lx van. statement is 1999- 2003 ford windstar vans could have this and the problems that could occur. my oh my .. i have 3 children that ride in that van daily, i'm a low income parent. why would one take this chance with humans. i bought the van in march of 2009. 2 days later abs/ brake light came on. at the time i was told that i have an eagle warranty ..that might i add not even the ford dealer ship would except. i don't take chances where my children are involved. *tr

2002 ford windstar keeps displaying check abs or check traction control on the message center. then the abs or trac light turns on the dash. after car is restarted the messages go away. will happen every once in a while. my mechanic just told me there is a faulty abs control module and sensor. i cannot afford to replace that. i read reports that this is a problem with the windstar and a fire can result. my wife drives my 3 kids around in this vehicle. *tr

ford windstar sel 2002 after approx 1 hr of driving, the brake and abs warning lights would illuminate and the check traction control message would flash on the information display. problem would usually resolve after being left over night. the frequency of the intermittent failure would increase as weather got warmer. eventually it would occur directly at first start in the morning. *tr

i have a 2002 ford windstar van, while driving, the van the abs light, traction control light and the emergency brake light all come on at the same time. they remain on until i park the van. if i turn the van back on the lights are off, but once i begin driving again all three warning lights come on. i have had the van. i have read that there is a serious problem with this happening in ford windstar vans and it has resulted in fires. i am terrified to drive the van now, and would like to know when there will be a recall. this has been going on with my van, especially since the weather has gotten warmer. *tr

i have a 2002 ford windstar. about 2 months ago the brake light, abs light, and the traction control light came on the dashboard, as well as the speedometer and digital odometer quit working. i took it to a local ford dealer to have it looked at, and they told me that the abs module went bad and would need replaced. they quoted me $1006.17 + tax to fix it! it is my understanding that this year windstar has a recurring problem with this module, and i would like to know if any work is being done on a recall? *tr

2003 ford windstar. abs and brake warning light come on intermittently. seams to be mostly when wet roads, but has occurred on dry days also. took to local ford dealer and was told abs module had a lot of error codes and the wiring connection looked damp. mechanic put dielectric grease on the connection, but i received no info on the error codes. *tr

abs light, o/d light in dashboard coming on. when vehicle purchased as used car these items showed up on the drive home after purchase. veh has been in to ford dealership garage 4 times. brakes were working fine at that time. 3 months later brake light come on. check and find that brake fluid is leaking from multiple locations. one being the brake pressure differential deactivation switch (2b264) located under the master cylinder. upon removing this plug i found brake fluid in the connection. looking below i found brake fluid on the wiring harness below the switch and on the metal panel, where it had actually began to rust. believe this harness is the power steering wiring. brake pedal in cab now goes to the floor before brakes are applied. there is a hissing sound when this is done. believe that the master cylinder is leaking fluid into the brake booster as well and has destroyed the gasket in there as well. this happened while my wife was driving. thankfully all of this happened without causing an accident considering i transport my 3 children and wife in this van. *tr

1. water leak in passenger side kick panel, has shorted smart junction box, now traction control does not work (caused the rear wheels to spin out on wet pavement at 35 mph and lost control of the vehicle, hit a curb and bent 3 rims and under carriage damage) and has caused other safety related problems while driving. with a/c on, car idle will drop and sometimes stall out, causing a loss of steering and brakes (very safety related). ford knew of water leak issue when vehicle was manufactured, they put a little plastic cover over sjb computer to deflect leaking water inside passenger compartment on passenger side behind kick panel near door hinge. no dealer will repair the issue without buying a new sjb and programming for over $600. 2. also rear brakes stick after using emergency brake. this is in a warm climate, not cold climate. if i ever have to use my e-brake in an emergency the rear wheels will lock up and be even more of a hazard and danger. both these issues are very safety related. i tried searching your data base and could not even select mustang in the vehicle list. searching the internet you will find literally hundreds if not thousands of complaints about this water leak and sjb damage issue. please do something about this. i am currently thinking of suing ford for the water leak and wreck this caused. i came very close to hitting a pedestrian when the traction control failed in this accident. *tr

ecm module defected according to the brake shop. the brake shop pulled the codes and all the codes said to replace the ecm module. the reason i took my 2003 windstar to the brake shop because my brake light, on by dash, comes on and my brakes makes noise like the brakes are on but they are not. this problem is intermittent and the brake light resets when the minivan is turned off. the brake shop said i had excellent brakes and the ecm module is defected. it will cost 600-800.00 dollars for repairs at my ford garage. but i understand as of now, there is no recall for the ecm module, however there maybe a recall in the near future. a recall will be great for me saving me 600-800.00 dollars. thanks*tr

around the middle of august, 2009, my 2000 ford windstar began having its abs warning lamp illuminate on my instrument cluster. this would occur seemingly for no apparent reason, though on september 13, 2009, i noticed that after engaging the cruise control and thereafter depressing the brake pedal, the lamp appeared. the lamp would usually, but not always, cease illuminating after i had stopped and restarted the engine. *tr

warning lights on dashboard appear intermittently. the lights that come on are the passenger airbag light and the advance traction control. also the passenger air bag light on the middle of the dashboard flashes off and on. only happens maybe 20% of the time. have had it to the dealer twice, the codes that come up they have never seen before so can't diagnose the problem. when i do take it in most of the times the lights don't come on so they ask whets the problem? i don't know if the car is safe to drive or not. *tr

three months ago, i bought a 2001 ford windstar lx and about a week after the abs and the brake light started to turn on and off sporadically and i noticed that every time i pushed the brake pedal the pedal won't come back up as usual, i changed brake pads, checked the brake fluid level which was low but then everytime i use my van there's like a plastic or fluid burning smell that comes from underneath my van on the passenger side, my cruise control is not working and, i'm afraid something bad could happened in the future, i took my van to a brake shop and they told me there was a recall on the abs system on these vans, i checked fords website entered my vans vin # but there is no recall so looking in the internet i found a website that suggested that i should report that to nhtsa because there is an investigation already open and filling these report might help that investigation ending in a voluntary recall by ford. *tr
