in may 99 heard rattle from left rear. found spring clamp missing bushing, no big deal. but did notice bottom leaf was kicked out on aft end (and kicked in of fwd end) appx 1/4 to 3/8". while dealer replace lugs: nuts on recall said leaf spring no big deal. i wrapped loose clamp in tape to stop rattle. now in 11/99 while washing car i noticed lower leaf is kicked out considerably farther, now measuring a full 1". i have contacted ford cac, and the dealer will probably install a kit per sb99-6477. however, i view this as a very big problem/safety issue because the ford tsb kit only replaces the existing clamp for the two uppoer leafs. the lower leaf is "adjusted" back into place. internet research shows numerous people with same compaint. this is not a satisfactory solution. in my current situation the lower leaf, at a 1" aft kickout, is contacting the fwd inside and aft outside u-bolt. there can be no other outcome to this than for the spring to exert enough force over time to weaken both u-bolts to the point of failure. in my case i'll be watching like a hawk. however were it not for the initial rattle i doubt that i would have ever seen the problem until at some point in the future when my axle fell off. i've been happy with the truck and ford in general until now, but i feel like they need to wake up and address this. looking at chevrolet trucks they have what seems to be a better design philosophy; the chevrolet truck has "square" u-bolts, threads down , which straddle the leaf spring assemblies with close tolerance to keep the stack together on top of axle. ford's design has the u-bolts on either side of the spring stack, threads up, and relies on the compression force to keep the stack together instead of the u-bolt itself. i would encourage you to look at this issue; over time as these trucks acquire more mileage there may be some u-bolt failures. *ak

the right rear leaf spring mounting was mounted incorrectly by the manufacturet. the mount measures farther back on the passenger side than the drivers side, thus cocking the rear axle to the right causing the truck to ride crooked down the road. currently the truck is sceduled for service on 2/14/2001 to have the rear pinon seal replaced for the third time as it continually blows out due to the excessive pressure. additionally, a transmission leak was discovered and required the replacement of the extention houseing. ford was advised of this problem on 6/2/2000 at 10,128 miles. however my complaint has fallen on deaf ears. the truck was inspected by the reginal field service engineer on two occations and on the second meeting he did acknowledge a problem however indicated that it was an acceptable defect and stated that he would provide a written report to me identifying the defect. to date i have not recieved any written responce. i have been threatened by ford to be quiet about my problem which has resulted in the matter being forwarded to the new jersey attorney generals office of consumer affairs for their action. a complaint was also filed with the burlington county office of consumer affairs on 11/3/2000 case # c2001107/39310 robbins vs. ford motor company. at this juncture ford states that they consider the matter closed and refuses to acknowledge my complaint as a consumer and take appropriate corrective action to repair or replace this defect. i have spoken with an additional 2000 ford truck owner who has experianced the same seal blow out. i will forward all documentation to your office relative to my complaint for appropriate corrective action.*ak

i own a 1995 ford contour se, 2.5l v6, with a manual transmision. i am a memeber of a car enthusiasts club called the contour enthusiasts group. after reading a post in the web site about boken rear springs i thought that maybe the noise i had been hearing coming from the rear of my car might be that my springs were broke. upon inspection i found both the right and left rear springs to be broken in almost the same exact spot. i have yet to remove them but they look to be broken atleast a full revalution up the spring. i have never had a car that the springs broke on. and from what i have been reading on the ceg website it seems to be a very common problem. i feel this could be a very dangerous situation if these were to fail while driving and cut down a tire. here is the web address for the thread about broaken springs http://contour.org/forums/forum3/html/002627.html and the address for the contour enthusiasts group web page http://www.contour.org/ there are other posts about broken springs in the "problems" forum.*ak

rear leaf spring: on the f-150, extend cab, long bed, the left rear leaf spring is over-loaded because the fuel tank ( and the driver ) are on the left side of the vehicle. this causes the vehicle to lean and become unstable. when carring a load, the majority of the weight shifts to the left side and this causes the vehicle to be more unstable. the dealer replaced the spring once but the problem still exist. / left power window: the window sticks all the time. the only time it works properly is when it rains and the track gets wet.*ak
