on 04/28/2000, i was towing my boat and trailer to lake erie on ohio state route 11 north when my rig suddenly began to fishtail extensively in perfect road and whether conditions and at a speed of approximately 50mph. i immediately applied electric trailer brakes to all four trailer wheels which did operate but to no avail. i then tried to hold the brakes on the trailer and also apply acceration to the truck to pull this rig out of the fishtail. within a matter of 5 seconds or less, i was thrown off the right side of the road into the hillside with a blown right rear tire on the truck. having pulled boats and trailers all of my life i couldn't figure out why this rig got away from me so fast, especially at the speed i was going. after everything about firestone tires that came out in the following months, i feel that something definitely happened to this tire to cause the accident. after getting the truck repaired and then checking the consumer report's website about tires, i decided to check out the dot dates of the tires that remained on the truck and found out that all these tires that were installed as original equipment were manufactured in early 1990. as far as i'm concerned, this is fraud and negligence on both firestone's and ford's part since they sold and put outdated tires on this new truck. i emailed a complaint to ford's customer service with the same information that i am providing you, but it was to no avail. at this time i'm looking into possibly filing a suit against both ford and firestone. if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at home or work. thank you. robert e. archer, d.d.s. owner describes failure as intermiitent loss of engine, shutting off with no warning. sometimes while driving at night all electrical power fails. dealership did a drive and maintenance check. the dealership replaced the wiring harness and returned the vehicle to the owner. now the engine keeps high acceleration with the rpm constantly in the "red" even with foot off of the accelerator pedal. problem can't be duplicated so the dealership doesn't have an actual fix. please describe details. mr

once the engine is started, the vehicle will not move from park to any other gear. there is an override procedure but it is inconvenient. when i took the vehicle to a dealer for repair, they told me ford had put a stop on supplying the cruise control brake switch. so it is not possible to get this repaired until ford replaces the part with one not defective. as a safety precaution, they removed the electrical connection to avoid fires at or around the brake fluid reservoir. however, brake fluid is leaking from the part and dripping. in the past month i have had to refill the brake fluid reservoir twice. i am concerned that the brakes will not function unless the part is replaced. the delimma seems to be ford will not allow the part to be replaced and yet they do not offer an alternative.

dt: the trailer brake controller is built right into the truck. does not have any brake control if going under 15-20 mph. the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer. this brake only put on 1-3 volts which they changed. but talked to dexter ,they said it needed 2-12 volts. ford changed this part on march 23, 2005, and the vehicle was manufactured on february 28,2005. dealer stated other consumers complained about this problem.*ak

1999 ford windstar 135,000 miles. used for sales. master cylinder (abs) light on and short at line running into master cylinder. pulled fuse after blowing several. affected part of dash (speedo, and odomiter) and cruise now does not work. had my son confirm were smoked wire was while putting in new fuse and watching under hood with my son starting van. note: same problem as see in news reports on other ford products but windstar was not listed. my mechinic does not do wiring but he did point out tosted harrness and connection at master cylinder.

dt: the consumer owns a 2005 ford f350 super duty dually with the brake controller built in the dashboard. when applying brakes at 10 mph or under, there is not enough voltage to activate the brake pump actuator, resulting in no trailer brakes at this speed. the brake controller override does not function at this level as well. the consumer took the truck to dealer, who verified this issue, but they said this was the way it was made and was not a problem. no corrections or repairs were done at this time. the dealer contacted ford, and they confirmed what the dealer said. *ak *nm

the ford electric brake controller in my 05 ford superduty f250 stops working when i encounter rough pavement. if i am coming to a stop, and the intersection is rough, the led indicator on the brake controller drops to only one light illuminated out of ten possible, and the trailer brakes stop working. i can gain trailer brakes back by either fully releasing the brake pedal and re-applying or by reaching down and grabbing the manual slide control on the brake controller. this has happened to me with all three trailers i tow. it is very disconcerting and bound to cause an accident at some point when i am trying to stop a 15,000lb load. the dealer replaced the controller once, and since has said there is no problem found. *nm

brakes on the trailer that i pull did not work properly. the brakes on towed vehicle did not work properly. it was a short in the wiring that ford installed in the vehicle when built which increased stopping distance very much. the short was fixed for a cost of $582.62 at gaudin ford. i feel that this should be covered by ford. i think this is a safety issue.

the electric brakes on the consumer's 2005 ford f-250 won't engage . *kb the consumer purchased the vehicle because of the built in electric brake system. the consumer thought he had a braking problem with his trailer because he was unable to engage the brake while sitting still. after checking the trailer brakes and finding out that everything was fine the consumer check the truck and found that it had only 3 volts max out. the consumer thought he had a bad brake controller and took the vehicle to the dealer. the dealer checked the controller and found that everything was working as designed. the technician told the consumer that the earlier model 2005 required that the vehicle be moving in excess of 15 mph before receiving enough power to work the electric brakes. the technician also told the consumer that the later model 2005 plus all the ones since have been changed to give max power even at a stand still. now the consumer has to pay extra money to make the system work as it should. *nm
