i bought my ford focus 2000, brand new in july of 2000. since then, i've had the wheel bearings replaced twice, the rear door stopped latching and i had to drive it to the dealer with my son holding the door shut, my alternator had to be replaced and still the lights get dim when i turn on the heater, the plastic and rubber door molding started coming loose and falling off right after i bought the car, the brakes have never stopped squealing, and now my key is stuck in the ignition and it won't come out. every time i take my car to a dealer, they always say the same thing "oh, that is common with the ford focus". after reading all of the consumer complaints, i guess you could say these problems are common with the ford focus. i've had nothing but problems with this car and expect to experience many more because so far the track record for the ford focus is extremely poor. after reading the numerous complaints, i hope ford is forced into recalling the ignition cynlinder or switch whichever is to blame for the key to becoming stuck in the ignition and the wheel not locking while the car is in park. ts

problems with ford focus brakes. it started squeaking after 10,000 miles. i took it in to the dealership and they said it was normal and to check back around 36,000 miles. well, it's already at 36,000 and it is already grinding and sqeaking all the time, even when it's not raining. i took it in to a professional brake specialist and they wanted to charge almost $ 500 to replace the rotars, brake pads and shoes. they said it very unusual for a car with low miles to have the rotars replaced. i was not about to dish out that amount of money to replace them when they should be covered under my extended warranty.

i have had "brake issues since day one of owning my 2001 ford focus station wagon. from the very beginning there was moaning sounds when i braked. the salesman & service dept told me "it's because they are new", @ around 13,000 miles they began to make more prominant "moans" i was told that it's "normal". at 16,500 miles severe moaning & grinding, then not being able to stop easily, i brought it in to an independant mechanic , since my bumper to bumper warranty does not cover "normal wear & tear items" such as brakes & i was told i would have to pay a diagnostic fee, also not in my warranty, to determine what the issues are,& this mechanic told me that i was metal to metal, i needed new front rotors & pads, $250.also that the focus has brake problems & was not designed well. here it is 3 months later & @19,800 miles my back brakes start squealing & screeching loudly, i bring it in again & the shoes are completely worn down & i needed the rotors machined, it was another $135 (which was i bargain since i called the ford dealer & they wanted @$300 for that work). he told me that his shop does all the fleet work for a neighboring enterprise rental car office & the focus' are constantly in there for brakes. i called ford's customer satisfaction line & reported the issue. i am mailing a letter to ford's dispute resolution board & i am hoping that you will help us focus owners with bad brakes get retribution from ford for this faulty system. thank you

i have a 2002 ford focus zx5 4 dr hatchback my problems started on 7/21/03 when my brakes lights, headlights, turn signal and radio stopped working. i took it into the dealership and it was repaired however now the radio will no longer response to me turning the vol. up or down as well as i only only set the time on military time. now on 9/7 my brakes have started to grind. on 9/11 my car now vibrates when i accerate at 60 mph +. in the past week i have also noticed that my car will accellerate and hesitate when in motion. in the last three months my gas mileage has slowly declined as well. i am taking it into the dealership tonight - but thought i need to report. seems there are many others like me.

2002 e-150 conversion van at 27770 miles the brakes and rotors had to be replaced with out warning have to press hard on brake pedal to stop. it is like the caliper does not dis-engauge. i told the dealer ship this and they said that it is not un-common problem they have seen it happen under 20,000 miles. it cost a lot of money to have fixed it seems that there may be a design defect or not the right type of part installed because it takes so long for the van to come to a stop with speeds under 25 mph. *cb
