i believe the 2001 ford seat-belt recall was inadequate and the latches are continuing to break internally. i am respectfully requesting that all the latches be replaced. my reasoning is as follows: i own a 2001 ford f150. in 2001 i took it in for the seat-belt recall. ford replaced one latch (the drivers belt latch). last week the latch on my son's seat belt failed. the latch broke internally. i went to the dealership to have the latch replaced under the recall. i told them their seat belt latches were failing. they told me there was no open recall on the vehicle. i was told by the ford motor companies customer service person that the seat-belts are only warranted for 5 years/50,000 miles. my truck has 55,000 miles on it. i told them seat-belts should never fail. he told me seat-belts do fail and he has seen them fall apart before (the conversation may have been recorded for quality purposes). ford is taking the position that if one of my family members dies due to a seat belt failure that it is not their problem since their seat belts are only warranted for 5 years/50,0000 miles. that is not acceptable. to date 40% of the seat belt latches in my vehicle have failed (i have 5 latches in my vehicle 2 have failed). ford is failing to take responsibility for the defective seat-belts and jeopardizing the lives of millions of people. furthermore they are not telling new car buyers that their seat-belts are only warranted for 5 years/50,000 miles. nor are they providing any kind of consumer information concerning recommended replacement/maintenance for the seat-belts. if you require any testimony or assistance from me concerning any deaths, injuries or other matters involving these defective seat belts i will be glad to assist. sincerely robert rassi occupation: quality assurance manager bsie industrial engineer statistical six sigma black-belt 623-670-3122. *nm

i spoke with 3 other mothers that have 1998 explorer and on each the middle seat belt won't work, i have three little grandchildren, and because of the problem i could not take all three anywhere. they could not seat up front. why do 4 out of 4 1998 explorers have the same problem? at first i thought i would just order a new one, but i didn't have the $80.00 for part and installation. upon talking to these other explorer owners i really felt that inferior belt buckles were used. my dad was a ford man and we were ford people. please help. *ak

while driving the seat belt that holds my child"s car seat in place becomes undone. i had the car seat installed by a certified car seat safety specialist prior to giving birth. the seat belt has come undone twice within 3 months while my baby was in the seat. both times i looked back in my rear view mirror to see the entire car seat leaning over. if my 3 month old baby wasn't strapped in he would have fallen out. *jb

the seat belt latch in the rear of my 2003 ford f350 4dr quit working approx 1 year ago. the button stays in so it will not latch. i thought the seat belts had a longer warranty, so i wasn't to concerned to get it fixed right away. i got a recall notice from ford for the cam position sensor (7.3l diesel), so while it was in, i asked about the seatbelt. they said my warranty was out by less than 2 weeks and could not help me. i even contacted ford customer service and again no help. i have an 88 chevy truck and a 95 gmc and have had no seatbelt issues. it seems to me that the belts should function properly for more than 5 years, and the fact that it went bad at around 4 years is even worse. *tr

i purchased a 2006 ford escape in april of 2006. since then two major safety issues have come up. first occurred in 2007. while driving at slow speed through a parking lot, a faulty bolt holding the rear tire to the chasis failed. this resulted in the right rear tire falling into the wheel well and a significant loss of control of the vehicle. ford replaced the bolt. the second incident occurred april 13, 2008. i entered the vehicle and attempted to buckle the seat belt. it would not buckle. in both instances i was lucky that 1- i was not moving at any great speed and 2- did not need use of safety equipment. *tr
