i pulled out of my parking spot at a local store and drove my car towards the lot exit. i proceeded to make a right turn out of the lot when my car's rear spun out to the right. no accident occurred. the lot had a dusting of snow on it. i pulled the car over to determine what just happened and noticed that despite being on a decline, my car was not slipping - even without the handbrake on. i got out of the car and the right rear brake disk was glowing a bright red and was smoking. apparently, the handbrake/parking brake had stuck in the "brake/park" position. i waited for the brake to cool off and got under the car and manually released the brake lever as another person made sure the car didn't roll on me. no injuries. i then tried to operate the handbrake a few other times over the next day and it always stuck, only now it appears both rear brakes stick. i have a maual transmission, so this is something i will need to fix asap due to operating the car on inclines, parking, etc. i am aware of other ford probe gt owners having the same problem, but i believe only the 1993-95 probes are effected because ford canged the design dueto this problem thank you for your concern and help.

hand brake fails to release. rear calipers sieze rear calipers have been replaced 3 times- approximately every 43k miles. this appears to be a common problem i have seen it mentioned repeatedly at ford probe sites on the internet

parking brake does not hold when set. a lot of force is need to set barking brake. campain id 98v101000 seems to be the same problem with my f250 superduty. abs problem: brakes go into abs mode when braking on rough (bumpy roads) dry road surfaces. this happens when truck has no load in it. my stopping distances are increased unpredictably..

midas muffler and brake company has taken care of my brakes for years. the taurus seems to eat brakes. the emergency brake, once set, does not release when you pull the lever. last month i parked on a hill and set the emergency brake, hoping that it would truly release when i pulled the lever. it did not. after a mile or so of driving, i saw smoke and smelled burning plastic. my left rear wheel cover melted from the friction of the un-released emergency brake. midas disabled the emergency brake for me when i got back to my neighborhood. i am now driving without an emergency brake. the emergency brake sticks quite consistently and i always end up going to midas to get it released. this past august was the worst episode.
