i have a 2003 ford excursion that while driving just shuts motor off and you lose steering and brakes at highway speeds. no warning at all. ford not very concerned with it and being very elusive about whats wrong. i can not get an answer just keep telling me they are fixing it, after they fixed it it broke down on them on the test drive, and still not willing to tell me what they are doing to truck other than dont worry about it its under warranty. i guess it is not a concern to them as long their faimly is not in front of me when i cant stop vehicle due to reasons they dont want to talk about. also asked to talk to owner of dealership but he is unavailable to even return a call. i belive this to be a very serious concern as the driver of the vehicle, it is not a good felling when it shuts down and you know that safe control of the vehicle is not there. ford dealer says its the fuel freezing up i dont agree i have been using winterized fuel and adding howes anti-gel formula to tank at fill-ups. and vehicle has been in a heated garage and shut down three times within 5 minutes. the ford dealer is brighton ford, michigan phone is 1-810-227-1171 service dept ester is rep. they told me today about it breaking down on them and that diesel tech has been off work last two days sick! well my question is whos been working on my truck then?

we were returning home from a trip to charlotte, nc yesterday afternoon when we were stopped by another motorist at the intersection of south college road and carolina beach road in wilmington. the driver had been following us for approximately one mile and his truck was covered with diesel fuel from our new ford f250. apparently the fuel system had started leaking. he looked under the truck and advised us to pull off as soon as the traffic signal allowed us to move. there was a puddle of diesel fuel under the truck sufficient to cause the rear tires to slip. we pulled into the parking lot and noted the rear and underside of the truck were coated with diesel fuel. fuel continued to leak until we shut off the engine. apparently the fuel system was damaged or defective. we have had the truck towed to cape fear ford in wilmington, north carolina.*jb

i purchased a 2003 ford f-250 super duty crew cab with 6.0 diesel in late january of this year. the check engine light came on in oregon. i pulled into the ford house in coos bay on saturday. they couldn't work on it until monday. tuesday they said it was an injector seal problem. they said they drained 28 quarts of fluid from the crankcase, which had a 15 qt capacity. the rest, they said, was diesel blow-by. they replaced 3 sensors and 1 injector and installed a new computer update. we picked up the truck and left town the following thursday. on the way out of town the turbo intake hose blew off. we returned and had it fixed. several days later we were in texas when the turbo exhaust hose blew off. that, too was repaired. at home, the truck was running rough and the fuel mileage dropped from 20 mpg to 13 mpg. i took it in again and they replaced 2 other injectors and installed another computer update. this past week the truck was again running rough and the fuel mileage was down. i took it in and they replaced a sensor and installed yet another download. this is not what i bargained for when i bought this truck. *tt

we purchased a 2003 f250 super duty 6.0 diesel with 15,000 miles on it on friday. we left for vacation on saturday traveling 10 hours away to tennessee.truck was great at first. towed our camper fine. but then on wednesday evening we were sight seeing on some twisty winding roads in the mountains of tennessee when it shut down with no warning! i was on a steep incline with 5 teenagers in the vehicle. no power steering! got it started on got to a pull off a few feet up the road when it stalled again. luckily, family members where in front of me and came back to help. we called road side assistance. they came and hour and a half later and towed the truck to the nearest ford dealer about 45 minutes away. thursday i called them, sorry, didn't have a chance to look at it yet. we were to start heading home thursday! friday a.m. packed up camper and had family member pull it to the ford dealer. just got to look at it at lunch time. found out that it had a history of injector problems with the diesel getting in the oil. had been worked on a couple times before for similar condition. decided that we could have ford change the oil at $115.00 and head home. stopped half way home and had oil changed again $74.00. ford dealer had the truck from 9-10 days. replaced 8 fuel injectors. picked it up last night drove about 60 miles and today during acceleration made a terrible noise like something blew up under pressure. had minimal acceleration. luckily no one was behind us! got it home and parked it in the back yard. calling roll back tomorrow. haven't even made my first payment yet!!!!! wish i had done some research before buying this vehicle with the 6.0 and all of it's problems that i am finding about now!!!!!*ak

2003 ford f350 superduty 6.0 powerstroke. i purchased it new on november 28, 2003. twelve hours and 68 miles later the transmission locked up at 45 miles an hour. i had it towed to the dealer and they yet to fix problem. i would like another new truck. the dealer will not give me one. i can't believe the run-a-round the dealer is giving me. they don't care that the truck was just purchased. they are taking there sweet time of fixing the truck. there were also other problems with the injectors, pcm, and tcm. with all these factors and being 12 hours old and only 68 miles, you would think out of courtesy ford or the dealer would give me a identical new truck. it's so frustrating it took the whole enjoyment of owning a new truck. *la

after purchasing my 2001 excursion with power stroke diesel i had problems with a hunting and sometimes surging when starting the engine. after two trips to the dealer and them stationing that there was "no" problem, the vehicle shut down while driving three days later. luckily i wasn't in traffic i was just getting ready to pull out onto the road. after having it towed to a different dealer (due to location) i was informed that the cam pick-up sensor was bad and there was a service bulletin on this. i returned about two days later complaining that the hunting and surging was still present. again, i was told that there appeared to be "no" problems. (they plugged the computer into it and got no codes. but, did not drive or run the vehicle.) now three dealers, less warranty and months later i'm still having lack of power, acceleration and poor fuel consumption problems. but, still being told by the dealer that nothing is wrong. finally i took the excursion in to the dealer while is was demonstrating the problem. the service tech agreed that "this isn't right". they replaced the fuel injector on number 8 cylinder. and the turbo charger under the warranty. the vehicle still exhibits lack of acceleration on take off and now shuttering when first placed into reverse. service tech states that it is the torque converter and that is not covered under warranty now and will cost approximately $3000. the cost of the vehicle new is $50,000 i would think the engine and transmission would last more than 40,000 miles? ford is ignoring and not standing behind a manufacture defect that is noted on multiple excursions and f-250's. *la

my 2003 excursion had a major turbo failure while traveling on i-10 on 12-26-03. my family and myself were traveling to houston. the vehicle only had a total of 1,049 life to date miles. while on the interstate for about 30 to 45 minutes we hear a larger pop noise and a large drop in the engine power. i only had a flash of a dash light and it went right back off. i was trying to get off the interstate. was driving about 25 to 35 mph trying to get to the next exit. notice large volume of smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle. i pulled over asap after seeing this. the smoke came into the cab from the ventilation system (a/c). pulled my daughter from the vehicle, also had my wife get out of the vehicle. at this point released the hood lock, checking the heat on the hood first. raised the hood found fire coming from exhaust pipe from the turbo. just smother the fire out to ensure it would not spread. saw the oil around the exhaust system through out the system. the vehicle has a 6.0 diesel engine and is a 4x4 excursion. im filing this report for the safety of others not for myself. my concern is for other people who are not exposed to this type of condition which can happen with a diesel engine. im a vehicle superintendent of a large city transit system. and have seen fires from a turbo failures. 6.0 diesel is a international product, and the series 40 engines are prone for this type of failures. this may be the only failure that is reported for the 2003 6.0 diesel. but with only 1,049 miles this failure should have not occurred. their should be some way to ensure the check engine light should have came on and stayed on for this condition for a failed turbo. its at the dealer at this time getting repaired. best regards, bryan j. garner

extremely poor fuel economy on ford 7.3 l diesel engine. bought vehicle new approx 1 year ago, vehicle was getting 18 miles per gallon until dec. 2003. as of jan. 2004 the vehicle mileage has been 9 miles be gallon. vehicle has loss of power and has been in the dealer repair shop for this problem. ford diagnostic say there is not a problem with the engine. if anything, a diesel engine should get better mileage as it is broken in. current vehicle mileage is approx. 25500 miles. this vehicle has been regularly serviced, oil change, filter, air filter, fuel filter every 3000 to 4000 miles and has been to the same dealership for the same complaint two times before without correction. *nm
