upon making a sharp right turn and returning on course, the steering began to oscillate as if not being able to center itself, wobbling, flopping right, left. i stopped, turned wheels right and left under resistance. i was able to work out the wobbling and continued. there were similar occurrences later. at 1000 miles later, i pulled out from a stop sign on hard left turn, went to straighten out, and steering locked on return. i turned left then right to unlock it and it did unlock, but wobbled so bad i couldn't drive over 10 mph, until i stopped, turned motor off, started again, and worked out the resistance. i can usually feel when it will occur. just bought the truck, can't afford repair just yet. help! *tr

repeated "death wobble". many times, at highway speeds when i hit a bump or imperfection in the road, the truck will violently shake and loose steering control. seems to happen more often during curves in the road. i have shot sideways across several lanes of traffic on more than one occasion very narrowly avoiding a high speed collision. happens both while pulling a load or not. dealership is unwilling to help. very serious, life threatening problem going on and i cannot believe ford is unwilling to fix the problem. i guess they will wait until someone dies from this before they will act. i don't think it will be long before someone is killed from this lose of steering control! *tr

i was driving down the interstate with my 2004 f-350 dually with my dump trailer on the back. i was headed down a slight hill when the steering wheel started to shake. the front wheels started to move back and forth from left to right and right to left very fast but in short strokes. the shaking and the strokes began to get longer so the wheels were turning more and more each time the wheels turned back and forth.. the shaft that comes of of the steering box that goes to the pitman arm sheared in half. this caused me to loose control of the truck because i had no steering. when i hit the brakes the wheels locked completely right, causing me to go off the highway, i hit a bank on the side of the highway head on, then the trailer pulled me around 180 degrees and i rolled the truck and trailer. *tr

i am the original owner of a 2009 ford f350 srw diesel crew cab. at approximately 70,000 miles i began to experience a strong front end vibration; death wobble. when i go over uneven roads at speeds above 55 mph. the vibration is so great that the steering wheel requires a tight hold to keep control of the truck. the vibration continues until i slow down to around 40 mph. this becomes even scarier when i am on a freeway fly over that turns and i hit an expansion joint. the truck shakes and tries to push away from the turn. i took my truck to the dealer on four occasions. the first visit they said they could not duplicate the problem and that i needed new tires. i bought new tires and it did not correct the problem. i took it back the second time and they changed out the ball joints, tie rods, steering damper, did a front end alignment and balanced my wheels. it seemed to work for a short time until a part fell off the front end of my truck and hit another one behind me in the car pool lane. i took it back to the dealer to find out what i lost. i was told a part fell off but they did not work near it. funny thing, it began to vibrate again after that. i recently took it back and talked to the technician before i left the truck so he would understand what it was doing. he took it for a drive but did not get it to vibrate as i reported to him. he told me that my truck drives just like all f350's without a load. i have put my slide in camper in the bed of my truck, 3,500 lbs. and it still vibrates violently. i think that would be considered a load and it truly feels like a death wobble as described by many internet postings. the ford rep i spoke to said they are not aware of any problems. i am in the process of filing a formal complaint with ford.

driving st highway speed (50-55mph) i ran over three small bumps in succession, the steering wheel went into a violent side to side shaking and i experienced a severe and violent shaking of the entire front end of the truck. i managed to slow the truck and pull to the shoulder of the divided highway. i got out and inspected the truck to see if there was any damage. i could see none so i drove carefully back on to the highway and the truck seemed to drive ok from that point on. i took the truck to a front end alignment shop and had the front end and suspension checked. they said it all looked good, but after that about a month later i had the same thing happen again on an interstate highway. same deal, i hit a succession of small bumps , then all hell broke loose, violent shaking and oscillation of the steering wheel. i was forced to pull over to the berm in heavy traffic and had to pull back out into fast moving traffic. these f-350's are a death trap ! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

i own a 2006 ford f-350 king ranch crew cab four wheel drive truck. i am the original owner. a few times through out the years there had been a shake after hitting a bump in the road at 60mph+. we received a letter noting a potential problem. we brought the truck to the dealer and they replaced brakes and 2 tires (other 2 had been replaced previously) and when we drove it home it started "the death wobble" (as the dealer calls it-and as i see many others on the internet). the truck started experiencing violent front-end shaking. during an episode of left-to-right shaking, the truck is very difficult to control. with my hand placed on the 12:00 position on the steering wheel, the shaking violently turns the steering wheel to where my hand is going back and forth between 10:00 and 2:00. slowing down to 30mph has stopped each of the three episodes. this truck has dealer installed tires and does not have a lift kit on it. air pressure in the tires equal manufacturers recommendation. they acted as if this is an uncommon problem at first, and said they have never heard of a letter that went out. then the next visit they say so commonly, that it is the death wobble and will cost $1500. it appears that ford motor company has blamed tire pressure, giant aftermarket tires, and lift kits for this problem. my truck has none of these possible causes. *tr

start of multiple occurrences of death wobble with this truck and numerous trips to the ford dealerships with no fix. tires replaced approximately 28,000 miles at my expense: ( was told this would most likely fix the wobble). i was advised the front end alignment out (caster setting) and could not be fixed by ford because the caster adjusters necessary to repair - not available at the time. but ford advised me the alignment without the caster adjusters was still within ford specs and would be fine. last visit to the dealership for the death wobble around 09-19-2012, vehicle @ 34,090. advised the mechanic attempted to align vehicle with caster adjuster sleeves; was unable to fix, wrong sleeves. would have been charged for the repair approx. 400.00. i was told that if i had the front aligned correctly it would take care of death wobble. 95% sure it would fix. i finally went to local mechanic shops. fixed wobble with 2 steering stabilizers @ 324.74 charge. alignment with caster sleeves @ 414.22 charge. i am planning to ask ford for reimbursement but i doubt they will comply. *tr

i was driving down the highway at around 65mph and went over a expansion joint on a bridge and the front end of the truck started shaking so bad that it ripped the steering wheel out of my hand. i had to come to a complete stop to make the shaking stop, i thought i had a front tire blow out, nearly hit the car in the lane next to me. i took it back to the dealer they put a new steering dampener on it and said try it, but it will probably not be any better, then the next fix is to put on a bigger steering wheel so i can hold on better when it happens. look on line this known as the "ford wheel of death" there is a bunch of videos on you tube about it and some actually show it happen. somebody needs to make ford pay for a proper fix before someone gets killed. *tr

i was traveling north on i59 through meridian mississippi at approximately 8:00 pm yesterday on 06/22/2012. i came across an overpass at about 70 mph when the rough surface of the bridge caused the truck to shake very violently in the front end. i immediately tried to control/correct it by holding the steering wheel firmly and braking. it started to subside and then started again. i held the steering wheel straight and firm, and braked harder until the shaking stopped. i had slowed to approximately 40 to 50 mph before it had stopped. this all took place in matter of seconds. though frustrated because i had just purchased the truck earlier on this day, i feel fortunate that it happened with little traffic. i had recently crossed over lake pontchartrain bridge in louisiana just hours earlier. *tt
