when declerating to a stop or stopped the engine will die. when i attempt a restart the engine will try to turn over for 10-15 seconds then stop. after 3 or 4 attemps and giving a little gas the truck will start. this has now happened 5 times to me in the past 2 weeks. i took the truck to ford and they didnt return any codes so nothing repaired. they fit my truck with a recorder and i am suppose to press a button next time it dies. this seems to be a serious issue as i have seen dozens of posts with the same issue. *tr

after owning my truck for nearly 2 years i began to notice a musty smell. last weekend my kids were riding in the back seat and noticed water pooled on the center seatbelt frame. i immediately thought the sliding glass window was partially opened, but it wasn't. besides it was no where near where the water was pooling. then we noticed in both corners of the headliner dark water stains. just by looking at the cab of the truck it looks to me like it is the molding that extends about 18 inches up the cab of the truck. i'm thinking it wasn't properly sealed on the roof. i am sure it has been leaking since day one,but with the drought here in houston for the last year i am just now noticing since it rains at least twice a week. ford is saying it is out of warranty and i would have to pay to have it fixed. excuse me but why is this considered warranty work when it is clearly craftsmanship of the truck. first time ford owner but never again. i don't have enough time to explain all the transmission and brake issues. *tr

while returning home, towing 25' pontoon boat, approaching driveway when brake pedal went to floor, no brakes. fortunately i was able to maneuver the vehicle into my yard and stop with parking brake. root cause was found to be brake line above driver's side rear wheel had rusted through at fitting causing loss of brake fluid. upon close inspection, many brake lines, transmission cooling lines, gas tank straps (the latter subsequently replaced per ford recall) are deteriorating due to excessive rust. although this vehicle is 11 years old, it only has 58,867 original, documented miles, and has not been exposed to excess road salt (mid-atlantic region). i have had to replace brake rotors, calipers, brake shields, egr tube, exhaust system from muffler back, and parking brake assembly all due to excessive, and what i consider, premature rust. if that were not bad enough, yesterday i look under the truck and see a puddle of transmission fluid. one of the transmission cooling lines between the transmission and the upper radiator has rusted through, and once again i will be responsible for the repairs. i have owned many ford products in my 44 years of driving but have never experienced anything of this magnitude with a vehicle of such low mileage. brake lines rusting out should be considered a significant safety concern. if i had lost brakes while traveling on the highway towing a 3000 lb boat and trailer it could have been disastrous. i feel the gas tank strap recall is a start, but far from addressing the overall issue of undercarriage deterioration with this year/model vehicle. *tr

while braking to turn, the brake pedal went to the floor and i was unable to stop. luckily i was already slowing for the turn and was able to downshift to slow enough for the turn. mechanic said the brake line was rusted through. with the recent recall of rusted gas tank straps on this vehicle, believe a recall on rusted brake lines is also warranted. this could have been a fatal accident under different circumstances, i.e., trying to stop at a train track, pulling a trailer, or going faster. *kb

i'm driving my truck when all of a sudden it will start vibrating horribly, like driving over a washboard type of road. the only way to get it to stop is to pull over to the side of the highway, put it in park, wait, and then try to resume driving. but this does not always work. you sometimes have to stop and change to park, or reverse, a couple of times, before driving again so that the vibration goes away. i have complained about this before, and i see hundreds of complaints for the same issue on "ford owner websites", and everybody is pissed. nobody can get an answer from ford service as to what is wrong. many people have replaced many different things (i.e. transmission, clutch pads, bearings, u-joints, emergency brake cable or pads), all to no avail. they have wasted their time and money, and ford refuses to live up to this awful and very dangerous problem. apparently, ford knows this is a big problem with 2004 f-150 trucks, especially, but will not acknowledge it. someone wrote on the web that ford knows they had a retooling problem with these trucks, and let the trucks go out for sale anyway. i am now having this problem more often, and i am afraid to drive it. i do not have any money to fix my truck, since our economy is so bad and have been unemployed for years. make ford take ownership of this recall problem! *tr
