on october 21, 1998 i was involved in an automoble accident. a ford taurus pulled out of a parking lot (from a complete stop) directly into my path. i was traveling at 30 mph and when i applied the brakes i slid directly into the drivers door. rain had been falling all day(the first rain of the year). therefore, i do not feel that my explorer slowed at all, my total skid was between five and ten feet in length. my question/complaint is why did my air bags not deploy? i was wearing my seatbelt, but i still hit the steering wheel. i have been looking on the internet for information on the speed a vehicle has to be traveling in order for the airbag to activate. the national insurance institute web page said the average speed should be between 12-16 mph. my explorer has many problems (it's a lemon). this, however, worries me. would my airbag activate at a higher speed? should i be afraid to put my family inside and go for a ride? this all may be in vane, there is a good chance my insurance company may consider it totaled. my other main concern was the severity of damage to the taurus. the driver was not hurt other than glass in his face, but all i could see was my grill and hood going directly into his window. i have read your

i went to the passenger's side of the car to place my briefcase, and my gym bag inside. i then put the passenger seat up, i placed my briefcase on the seat, and i shut the passenger side door. as i shut the door, i heard a loud sound of what i thought was ice cracking off the car. i went over to the drivers side and found the window completely shattered and blown out of the car. at least 80% of the glass from the window was on the outside of the car, on the ground. . i was shocked to see the window shattered in such a way because i assumed all of the windows in my car had safety glass. this evently disturbed me because if there had been a child or a passenger in that back seat when i had closed that door, they would have been injured. when i first leased my mustang in july of 1998, i had problems putting that window up after having my convertible top down. it would take me 2 or 3 tries of pressing the electric switch up and down until that window finally squealed its way all the way up the track. i now believe that the back driver's side window was not put into the track properly, causing severe pressure on the glass. the combination of extreme cold weather and pressure finally caused the glass to shatter with the vibrations of closing the door. this caused the window to blow outwards, and all over the ground. due to this defect, i feel the expense to repair this window should be the responsibility of the ford motor company. *ak

car was involved in collision and when brakes where applied all wheels locked up and was unable to steer doing about 40 mph but car is equipped with abs system - the brakes have been worked on twice in 2 years both by ford dealers. should this have happened with abs. also neither air bag deployed even though it was the front end that has suffered damage (don't know cost yet) front bumper, hood, head light, driver side front quarter panel and driver door are all damaged. not only did the air bags not deploy, but after accident the air bag light on dash flashed on and off repeatedly, and along with this the shoulder harnesses on seats did tighten, but not enough to hold people back to where one passenger in the back hit their face on the back of the front seat. luckily there were not injuries. *ak

notified by ford sliding door latch, had it repaired. then front end doesn't stay in alignment, head gasket blew, causing loss of starter and other related parts, total cost of $1800.00 at this time the car only had around 50,000 miles. door light stays on indicating that a door is open when one isn't. sometimes goes on and off and beeps. interior lights stay on for extended period of time. heard on news about recalls and buy back, called ford, they tell me about 3 other recalls on the van,: head gaskets, hood separation, feul tank mounting (which will only replace or repair if they feel its necessary). i looked on the net and found that there is also an airbag problem on the passenger side. i was never notified of these and only recently became aware of them. i am in the process of trying to get a refund for the $1800.00 on the head gasket and related problems. i was told to go and speak to a mary flanagan at the sanders ford in jacksonville, nc where i live and purchased the vehicle. i would like to find out more information a out all these recalls and repairs that are needed and if the buy out program applies to my vehicle. i have 3 children and i am feeling very unsatisfied with safely transporting them in this vehicle. *ak
