when you slow down my car maks a funny noise which is called a ratcheting sound when you come to a hault. a friend of mine had the samething wrong and other chrysler lebaron cars i have been next to at stop lights have made the same noise. it's something in the transmission. the rear of my car makes a real funny noise that sounds like the shocks have gone bad. in fact, we have replaced the rear shocks, and it still makes the noise. we had no idea what it was until a friend of mine was in the car and heard the noise and said her car did the samething, and came to find out it was the torsion bar in the rear of the vehicle. *ak

i heard a rattling noise coming from the back end of my 2001 chrysler sebring. i needed to pick up children and intended to look into noise when i got home. about a mile from home on a bumpy country road, the rear passenger side tire blew out. while changing the tire, it was discovered that the strut support had corroded and broken, throwing the shock into my tire. tire is destroyed and strut/shock needed to be replaced. the mechanic looks at the other side and finds that it too is corroded and ready to break. a friend is a mechanic for a chrysler dealer and says he has seen this before and chrysler knows this is a problem, but has not issued a recall. this malfunction sent my car into the oncoming traffic lane, and i was just lucky that i was in the country and no one was coming the other way! the warranty on my car expired 2 months ago. is chrysler in any way responsible for the repair costs? *jb

the van was professionally modified straight from factory by independent mobility systems, inc (ims) a company out of business that specialized in these modifications. i previously reported back around early 2006 about a safety problem that i had experienced with the vehicles rear shock-absorber lower tie-down brackets. in my complaint i explained that i had experienced a terrifying incident while traveling at 50 mph the left bracket broke at the weld that connected it to the rear axle, causing the highly pressurized shock-absorber to extend and jammed against the pavement and the axle. this caused the rear of the vehicle to jump and shutter violently and making me stop rapidly. repaired at the cost of $100.00. on this occasion i was in a parking lot and driving over a speed bump when the weld on the right side bracket broke off. again i towed it to a midas at different location and spent $45.00 on the repair. well this was reported to braun enterprises , a company that specialized in these modifications that has taken up warranty and parts issues from ims. their response was that since the vehicle was past its warranty period they would not be willing to cover the repairs. this resulted in my first report to dot. the reason for my repeating this report was that it has happened again to one of the same brackets. this happened three times. in my initial report i stated that the reason i suspected this happened was due to faulty engineering. since the brackets where located lower than any other parts in the bottom of the vehicle it was probably susceptible to road obstacles. i further suggested that another cause might be due to where the brackets were placed and the manner in which they were mounted that was not sufficient to withstand the pressures of everyday driving. remember these modifications were done on vehicles that transport people with mobility effected challenges. *ak

right rear top strut mount became noisy/creaking/thumps) during the winter. 2 weeks ago while driving home we heard excessive noise/creaking/thumping from right rear. while driving to work the next day noise was even louder. upon inspection i found the shock had dropped through the mount and were wedged in the coil. temporarily pushed it back up, purchased a new mount from dealer which was installed. old mount, aluminum), had completely deteriorated. now the left side was getting louder. will replace before shock damage as well. *ak

rear upper shock mounts broke. made of allum. why? corrosion will happen if you install allum next to sheet metal, also they were not painted. the new ones are at least painted. it does not seem to me to be very smart to have allum. mounts and unprotected. *tr
