consumer was having problems with the vehicle and smelled a gasoline odor when the weather was cold. while trying to start the vehicle one morning, it would not start, and caught fire in the driveway. the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem. vehicle was unrepairable. various other problems consisted of tie rod/air conditioner and water pump. *ak

auto has exhibited a consistent problem being a grinding noise accompanied by difficulty in steering. this problem manifests itself particularly in cold weather. dealer has replaced: right strut assembly, right tie rod end, right stabilizer link, right upper strut mount - replaced the steering rack on two occasions and the steering pump on three occasions. despite these efforts, the problem persists. i have been advised by a dealer mechanic that the car is unsafe to drive yet i cannot get chrysler corp. to remedy the problem.

each of the failures occurring in my 1996 chrysler lhs has been costly. the failure of the o rings, the failure of the steering linkages, and lastly, the failure of the rack and pinion bushings. the critical failure of each of these components occurred with the items made of rubber. in the case of the rack & pinion, my mechanic finds it incredible that he cannot just replace the bushings. as it is he has to buy a new rack assembly + charge me for the labor and expense of removing and replacing the rack. i think that this is a manufacturers design defect, and should be paid for by daimlerchrysler!

power steering rack being replaced again - 4th time; power steering pump being replaced again - 5th time; right strut assembly replaced twice; transmission leakag; tranmission replaced; right tie rod replaced; right stabilizer link replaced; replace ending serpentine drive belt; repair gas tank leak; repair ac connector & wires; replaced ac compressor; replaced water pump; replaced timing belt - both the dealer and chrysler have been contacted on many occasions - currently vehicle is at dealer again to replace power steering pump and rack; however claim that parts are on national back order - vehicle has been at dealer for almost 2 weeks - this vehicle is very defective and appears to be unrepairable - one more than one occasion i was driving this auto when power steering went and rack split - should i be expected to ever behind the wheel of this vehicle again?? *ak

this form is not user friendly. you are precluded from going back to previous screens without losing information. i just filled out a form completely, and was cut off before i could add comments! please cross reference my information. my additonal comment is that given that my car is less than 4 years old, i feel that i have had major repair items, such as a/c compressor/ brake rotors/tie rods). if a car is made to last, these problems should not arise. the dealerships view is that a 4 year car with 27,000 miles is worn out and that's just the way it is. my other car is a saturn and after 6 years i have had zero repairs aside from normal maintenance. chrysler makes bad products, and doesn't stand behind their cars. please be on alert that there are way too many problems arising with cirrus models. i have dealt with tamiami chrysler in miami 305 266-5500 who are incompetent, liars and crooks. come down hard on chrysler. *ak

the rubber bushing that mounts the rack in place has prematurely wore out it is not from wear and tear as it is a non-moving part. with my rubber bushing dry rotting and crumbling apart it alows the rack to move from side to side leaving the driver with no control over te steering of the car. in order to get the car to turn you have to turn the steering wheel twice as far as normal which if unknown to the driver could cause a personto have a head on colision or to drive off the side of the road. now normally i would just have the car fixed, but chrysler has made sure to make that about impossible. all earlier years you could buy the bushings for about $65.00 but in 1996 they made it all one pease so you have to replace the whole rack at a price of $970.00 just to buy the part. "not including labor". when i called chrysler they agreed with how rediculous this was. it is equall to having to change you motar because your motor mount went bad. if you wonder why i say prematurely chrysler told me to find and after market piece to fix it and it isn't even offered in after market yet. in conclusion nothing may be able to be done to help me but this part is still being used in the 1999 m-300,lhs,concorde and i amagine in the intreped. please help before someone gets hurt or worse. thank you for your time

daimler/chrysler was contacted to inform them of these persistent probelms, not only with new yorker, but concorde,lhs and intriped. the refuse to address the probelm and even the dealership service office is giving advice to call and complain. i see your web site is filled with the same chrysler cars with the same chrysler probelms. please help us to get the service and attention to this matter and have chrysler repair there defects as they expect us to pay our payments. thank you for your time and speedy action in this matter.

had new tires put on. noticed that the front tires were wearing out when making a right hand turn. the wheels would whistle, and when coming down a hill and applying brakes,the front wheels shimmied very badly, especially when traveling at 45mph. contacted the dealer, dealer inspected vehicle, and told consumer that bushings/tie rods and ball joints wore out *ak

both tie rod ends at steering gear box had to be replaced. car would wonder all over road.. asked dealer why they failed at 59000 miles, just a wear point.. i've had to many other cars and trucks and never had a tie rod problem and this car has both fail at the same time....
