our 2008 town & country touring has begun shutting down while moving without warning. it has happened six times in 3 months at both lower speeds, and once going 60+ mph on a busy interstate. when it loses power, we lose steering and breaking power making it very difficult to control the vehicle. this is a very dangerous situation, particularly for a car normally filled with children. it also occasionally will stall every time you start it. ours will throw no codes and no warning lights come on, so no one has been able to find the problem. the dealership claims no knowledge. this problem is discussed on multiple forums and going back only one year there are at least 7 other complaints of the same issue (odi id numbers: 10453837, 10452564, 10450629, 10441113, 10438800, 10428568 & 10422766) and many more dating past that. i know you all are probably very busy reviewing complaints, but chrysler and nhtsa should not be waiting for some one to get in a serious accident before figuring this out becomes a priority. *js

i was driving the car and the car started pulling and making a scraping noise, i took the car into chrysler and they did an oil change and said i'd need brakes and had worn shocks> i told them i thought that was unusual for a car with only 19k on it. i told them i wanted a second opinion, i took the car that day to midas, they confirmed the right break was shot and was the rotor but the rest were fine, and the shock was not worn but leaking. i called chrysler and told them they were mistaken and if they were doing there job they would have notice that a month earlier when the car was in there for tire rotation. the brakes were r fixed for 354.00 and chrysler wanted me to send the receipt when they quickly denied. the car has a lifetime warranty on it, and i understand the 1yr etc on brakes..but if i drove the car normally it would have shown up,,and this was not wear (i kept the used parts) and the shocks not worn. i bought the car brand new and wondering if it was damaged on the lot or something... *js

this is an extremely serious matter that they need to address by chrysler and the nhtsa immediately. they need recall all of these vehicles before me or my family members or some innocent people are killed due to this defective braking issue. my initial date that this started happening was about a year ago. although as of the end of 2011 the brake failure began to happen more frequently. i have a 2006 chrysler pacifica which has about 100,000 miles on the vehicle. the abs light comes on and goes off all the time. sometimes it stays on for long periods of time as well and does not reset even after turning the car off. i loose breaking power when this happens as it feels like the brakes are shaking, grabbing, slipping and grinding. it now takes greater distance to stop my vehicle. the feeling is very much life threatening to me and my family as if we are being dragged to our death. it is not a safe feeling, i have to drive my children to and from their activities and school. a complete brake failure happened today 5/20/12 while i was driving with my kids and i almost had a head on collision. i am afraid to drive this vehicle. i do not know if it will actually stop when i apply the brake. i have been researching the problem and have found dozens of others that are having the same problem with their abs light. many are having speed sensors replaced without fixing the problem others are being told that they need brakes and other electronic components. chrysler is ignoring the problem and that brakes failure is a serious problem. god please, i do not want to end up having another accident with them in the car as it happened today one today. it really concerns me that there has not been a recall on this vehicle yet. i am pleading to please, please, please, take this problem seriously and to save lives of these many owners and families of the 2006 pacifica. *tr

while driving the check engine light came on and the engine stalled. when tested the engine code came back as electrical short. the dealership where i purchased the car did not fix the problem but cleared the engine code. a few weeks later the check engine light came back on. while traveling at 50 mph, and coming to a stop, the engine stopped running and the brakes failed to stop the car. after going thru a red light another car broadsided my car. *tr

i have had the front brakes replace by chrysler 3 time since june 2009 and the rotor once. i am currently experiencing a massive shutter when i apply the brakes at highway speeds (very dangerous). i contacted chrysler and they told me the rotors are probably warped (again) and that they are no longer covered under warranty. i just had them done before 36k and now i'm at 50k. i purchased new wagner rotor and ceramic brake pads and installed them myself. first time out the shutter is still there. i contacted chrysler again and told them the new equipment (per their recommendation) did not work. they told me to bring it in and for $95 they will try to figure out what is wrong. surfing the internet and nhtsa info it sounds like a ton of people are having similar issues and there is no help from chrysler or no recalls on the braking system. this system is dangerous and someone needs to step up and fix it. i have 2 small kids and i am afraid of drive/stopping this vehicle. the shuttering effects you ability to steer when trying to slow down to take an exit ramp on a highway. someone out there help!! *tr

have had t&c 2010 van for 2 years - our 11th chrysler product and our 3rd chrysler van. how many complaints does it take on this site before chrysler is aware of a problem with rear brakes & rotors? i have registered a complaint with them - less than 39,000 miles for metal on metal - replacement of pads & rotors - not able to even turn the rotors they were that bad. chrysler's answer? sorry we can't reimburse you - i wasn't looking for $$ - i was looking for an answer as to why this happened & what is to prevent it from happening in another 20k or 30k? i asked for someone higher up - she said she was the case mgr. i asked for the ceo's name - she couldn't give it out - seriously? i said i'd get it on line. we have a 2005 sebring that just had its first set of front & rear pads and rotors at 105,000 miles - same driving conditions - country roads and an occasional trip to chicago. so why is this happening to our van? there is a problem but chrysler won't admit it is using cheap parts. does it only concern them when there is an injury or death? is this not a safety issue if the brakes fail? i don't blame the dealer - they are the stooges and do what chrysler tells them. and now they are discontinuing the town & country and will only have the grand caravan - why is that? let's hope they put better brake systems on them from here on out. is there anyway we can all band together and get some answers????? we don't have $400 to keep shelling out - while we are trying to pay off this van. but i see we are lucky compared to other folks with problems even sooner. this is a disgrace and chrysler should own up to a serious problem. *tr

a few months ago a squeaking noise began on the right side of the vehicle. at the end of march i took the vehicle to the dearlership to have the squeak looked at as well as have the front brakes and rotors replaced (at the time the vehicles mileage was 22,160). service advisor reported that the squeaking was likely the result of the rear brakes and was not uncommon. the squeak has continued. set up another appointment for may 17th to have the vehicle inspected again. service advisor advised that the squeaking issue is indeed still the rear brakes, they are not bad and the pads are half gone but does not recommend that they need to be replaced at this time. as of june 19th, the squeak continues and at times get's worse. what i don't understand is why the brakes squeak when i am not even pressing on the brake pedal. chrysler replaced the front brakes, why are they not replacing the rear brakes which obviously had more wear and tear due to the front brake issue they did address. chrysler needs to admit fault on this issue as well. *js

my van has been shaking upon braking and recently has begun making a rubbing noise. when taken in for a brake inspection they said that my rear brakes and rotors already need replaced and that it was uncommon for newer vehicles with 30,000 miles on it to need replacements and that i should check to see if it has been recalled. it has not been, however, i have noticed numerous complaints that it's happening to many owners. i love my van, and would love for chrysler to step up and replace the faulty brake system. *js

my first problem is an worsening squeaking and grinding in my brakes. i purchased the car in oct 2011 and started having squeaking brakes in march 2012. i have returned my car to the buying dealership three times prior to my 12,000 brake warranty. i was told by a certified chrysler mechanic nothing is wrong with my brakes and they did not hear anything. my brake issue has gotten worse i hear it constantly with any stopping motion. i then took my car to a non certified chrysler mechanic and i was shown my rear brakes are warped. and the brakes are defective. this mechanic did not want to fix the issue he stated return to your dealership because even if we replace the pads the defective parts will cause the problem again. i called the buying dealership that same day and told the person in service center what i was told he guaranteed his technician did their job and refused to look in the system to provide me with exactly what she did since the issue was not fixed. needless to say that individual is unprofessional and totally disregard my concern. i called chrysler headquaters filed a complaint that same day. a few days later i took it to another chrysler dealership the technician agreed my rotors in the rear where warped and "reglossed them" this did not fix the issue. i returned a few days later telling him the noise never went away. i was told i would have to pay for the new brake pads or to be reglossed. he advised me my pads are placed in a certain position that causes them to make that noise but could not give me a straight answer if this was abnormal or normal. but pretty much deal with it. i have all the paperwork from each dealership and mechanic regardless if the warranty is expired if the brakes are defective they will never work properly. my second concern is my car has stalled three times in the month of june 2012 while driving going less than 20 miles. *js

i started our 2011 chrysler town & country, stepped on the parking brake pedal to release the brake. when i got to 65 m.p.h. the hood started shaking. i realized that when i released the parking brake that my toe must have tripped the hood release lever. this is a safety design flaw in that the hood release lever should not be located directly above the parking brake pedal. i called the chrysler customer assistance center at 800-247-9753 to report this problem 7-6-2012. the reference number is [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
