i am disabled secondary to multiple sclerosis but an still actively employed as a physician. i was thrilled to purchase a vehicle through chrysler that was adapted by braun corporation with a lowered floor, entervan ramp and hand controls. from the first 6800 miles, i have had repeated problems. in the past year and a half, i have been stranded in my vehicle in my wheelchair and the van has required towing. i was prompted to reach out to you for help because the first problem (at 6800 miles) recurred now at 40,000 miles. my brakes failed entirely without warning and i was travelling at 40mph. chrysler points the finger at braun and quality coach (the distributor locally). they point the finger at chrysler. chrysler said that in 1996, braun cahnged the location of the fuel pump and this required "customization" of the line between the brake pump and the master cylinder. this "custmized" line has worn through twice (the first time at 6800 miles) with no warning. i was assured then that the problem was corrected but found out at 40mph that my brakes were gone again. i had gotten the van serviced at the dealer 6 weeks prior to this and new front brakes were installed. i also had it in 12 weeks prior to this incident to have all the conversion equipment checked. needless to say, no assurances from them that they have corrected the problem will convince me to drive this van and i do not, in good conscience, want to pass this problem on to another innocent person. please advise and help if you can!

we bought a used 2002 chrysler town and country minivan from a car rental company here in sacramento california. the vin # is [xxx]. the vehicle was in excellent condition with about 24,000 miles on it we bought it. a couple of months after we bought the vehicle, the abs light went on indicating that the abs brake system and the traction control systems were malfunctioning. we took it into a dealer here in town and they replaced a rear wheel speed sensor. a few months later the abs light came on again and we took it back to the dealer. they checked it out and said the wheel sensor was showing bad again. they replaced the wheel speed sensor again. now it is about 3 weeks after that most recent repair and the abs light came on again. we were on vacation at the time and drove about 1000 miles without abs brakes or traction control as it was inconvenient to take it in while on vacation. i did not receive the old part either time before but i will get it this time. by the way the vehicle is outside of warranty now and chrysler has declined to repair it without charge. we feel this is a safety issue as we are driving for considerable periods of time without 2 important safety features that came with the vehicle; antilock brakes and traction control. we are concerned that they can't seem to get this problem resolved. we are also concerned that others may be experiencing the same problem and it is not getting resolved. this seems to be a defect with the abs system or parts within the abs system of this chrylser model.*ak updated 07/25/2012 *js information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

summary: i was supposed to pick up the van on march 30 2006, but the system died during the test run, van would not shift gears, signal or turn off, this problem recurred on july 23, 2006 shortly after it was finally delivered to me at home. i called carlos, the president of the company which made the adaptive driving equipment for my van and left a voice mail saying the van was stuck in drive, and i was sitting with my hand on the brake, (as happened on march 29, 2006 when we went to take it home for the first time. the customer care representative called me back and told me to have someone pull out one of the fuses to reset it. about a week later, drive master technician came out to put in a temporary reset switch. i never heard back from carlos regarding this incident. the vehicle failed numerous times, causing me to have to flip this 'temporary' reset switch, carlos didn't return my calls , but drive master said he was sending out the parts to replace the switch. then, the van died late september in a parking lot, gas/brake failed, back-up brake \was delayed, a second earlier or later and i would have been in a major accident. i spoke to carlos in october, and he was putting in something to fix this problem, but he had yet to address the problem . this caused the van to freeze , inability to shift gears, signal, turn the car off, etc , and the only resolution to that first problem, so far was to flip the reset switch that was temporarily put in. carlos offered me an upgrade that would address the problem that happened in late september with the van freezing for $1500, but said it would normally cost more and he wasn't making it available to everyone. the problem recurred without resolution. *ak

the van was professionally modified straight from factory by independent mobility systems, inc (ims) a company out of business that specialized in these modifications. i previously reported back around early 2006 about a safety problem that i had experienced with the vehicles rear shock-absorber lower tie-down brackets. in my complaint i explained that i had experienced a terrifying incident while traveling at 50 mph the left bracket broke at the weld that connected it to the rear axle, causing the highly pressurized shock-absorber to extend and jammed against the pavement and the axle. this caused the rear of the vehicle to jump and shutter violently and making me stop rapidly. repaired at the cost of $100.00. on this occasion i was in a parking lot and driving over a speed bump when the weld on the right side bracket broke off. again i towed it to a midas at different location and spent $45.00 on the repair. well this was reported to braun enterprises , a company that specialized in these modifications that has taken up warranty and parts issues from ims. their response was that since the vehicle was past its warranty period they would not be willing to cover the repairs. this resulted in my first report to dot. the reason for my repeating this report was that it has happened again to one of the same brackets. this happened three times. in my initial report i stated that the reason i suspected this happened was due to faulty engineering. since the brackets where located lower than any other parts in the bottom of the vehicle it was probably susceptible to road obstacles. i further suggested that another cause might be due to where the brackets were placed and the manner in which they were mounted that was not sufficient to withstand the pressures of everyday driving. remember these modifications were done on vehicles that transport people with mobility effected challenges. *ak

we purchased a used 2008 town and country 13000 miles in december 2008. in april 2009 at 16000 miles it needed all four brake pads replaced. dealer said brakes were not covered with warranty and this was just normal wear and tear. in june 2010 at 32,000 miles when we took it in for an oil change, the technician indicated all four brake pads needed to be replaced. on march 14 2009 we reported the cd player would not eject cd's, but no work was performed. on april 8 2009 we again reported radio/cd player would not eject cds. dealer replaced the radio. on july 6 2009 we reported sound quality problems with the radio. it was replaced and on july 30th we experienced same problems only now the radio would just shut off completely. the radio was again replaced. on december 26 we reported the aux. power outlet was inoperable and needed to be replaced. we also reported the engine was exhibiting a loud humming noise when we approached speeds of 40 mph. technician told us it was a computer problem and that was reset. within one day the sound was back. in july 2010 we were traveling to denver colorado and the ac would cut out when we approached 65 mph. in addition the rpm's would go as high as 4000-5000 at 60 mph. car had to be towed into a local dealership in which the said the service department said the valve body and hub bearings were causing the noise and problems. *tr

flimsy front floor mat migrated and bunched up under accelerator pedal preventing acceleration as needed even though mat was hooked on hook provided. head end of mat rotates over toward accelerator pedal when getting in and out of car. inability to accelerate as needed could be as dangerous as a stuck accelerator. it is conceivable that this situation could also result in a stuck accelerator pedal. *tr

this vehicle has suffered through a wide variety of problems as outlined from online complaint boards. today has started sudden acceleration while stopped at traffic lights almost taking me into traffic your investigation on these are closed but i never had satisfaction speaking to chrysler officials and was informed by my dealer a couple of years ago that the vehicle was made by the ;old; company and the new company does not honor problems.what is disturbing is that a close inspection by me has revealed that the wiring harness going to the control computer was routed under the drivers side flexible motor mount and the harness has been damaged by the mount compressing this harness right on top of a bolt on the frame causing fraying of several control wires .the poor design has indeed created most of the problems with the vehicle and could cause wrecks and perhaps even deaths. chrysler has informed me they do not accept suggestions from the public but for the safety of the citizens still driving these vehicles,i see a lot on the road, please contact them as to this problem which while not covered under their warranty should be as this flaw only shows up with mileage. the wiring harness has not been priced by me yet but if past experience is the guide chrysler parts are significantly higher than competitors, even if the last 'genuine' part had product of south korea right on the box. the problem is poor design. *tr

tl* the contact owns a 2007 chrysler town and country. the contact stated that while attempting to replace a tire by utilizing the factory jack that came equipped with the vehicle, the jack failed and awkwardly bent outward from the weight of the vehicle. the failure caused the vehicle to crash to the ground. the contact stated that the manufacturer sent an engineer to inspect the jack. the manufacturer sent him a letter stating that they had not found a malfunction with the jack. the failure mileage was unknown, but the current mileage was 83,000.

the air conditioner freeze plug, rubber part melted and blew out from the engine. i have saved it.. i was told by a mechanic that the type of plug with rubber could cause continuous blowout and that should not happen based on the 18,428 miles that was on the car which was purchased new on 12/24/2011 with 63 miles on the odometer at the time. fortunately, the car basic warranty is still valid to help with the repair cost after towing it to a chrysler dealership that is an authorized warranty repair shop. note: i left the car for repair on tues, july 2, 2013 but as of today monday, july 8th, 2013, i have not been able to get a diagnosis from the dealership repair shop. i have called on several occasions but was told that their mechanic shop is shortstaff and i have to wait until they can get to check the car when there are enough mechanics to attend to all of the pending repairs on the cars that are waiting for service at this time. *tr

further to my last email dated 7/8/2012 which was assigned odi number 10523670. i wish to advise that as of this date, i have not been able to be told what the mechanic diagnosis is?, even though i have made repeated follow-up calls as suggested by various service personnel, 1. [xxx], 2.[xxx] and 3.[xxx] at soutars dodge dealership, 631 west main st, barstow, ca 92311, ph 760-256-3502. they all promised to get back to me but never did. my last call on tues, 07/09/2013 in the afternoon, i spoke with [xxx] who first attended to me on tues 7/2/2013 when the car was towed in from baker, ca and left for warranty repair, etc, he told me that the mechanic tried 4 freeze plugs which did not work and they are waiting on a fifth one which will hopefully will work. note: the first mechanic in baker, ca who checked the car there ,told me that he ordered, received and tried a freeze plug using all of the details pertaining to the manufacture specifications but that did not work because it was too small. [xxx] at the dealership service also told me on thue 07/09/2013, that the last 4 freeze plugs that they ordered and tried using were too small. how and why this is happening, i am finding it hard to understand?. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

vehicle was parked;vehicle would not shift from park, immediately after driving.vehicle towed to hendrick chrysler for repair.vehicle was recalled,feb.2007 ref.#f50. i purchased same from listed dealer,10-12-2007 and vehicle was not serviced reference the noted recall before selling to me(months later);i was never advised of same recall.my vehicle meets all criteria for recall,i.e.,time of manufacture, vin. number specifications, plus, same symptoms noted in recall matches my breakdown symptoms(plus the un-reprogrammed computer factors into the breakdown.i have documentation of same).i called chrysler today for repair reimbursement costs and a [xxx], hid behind the"typical" chrysler response to this issue that i have read in numerous reviews on-line about this problem, being:"your vin. # does not fall within range." i have paperwork which was on www.safecars.gov, that states otherwise.also,i have all needed documents to rebut the idea that my vin.# disqualifies my claim;some generated by chrysler.yet chrysler believes it only has to use words to me and others to escape any and all product responsibility. while driving i smelled a "sweet odor" & noticed had risen & all of a sud the heat indicator had risen & all of a sudden the car stopped running. i sat for 20 minutes & attempted to start again to no avail. i waited an hour, ntried again & no luck. so i left the car & on monday contacted the service station who inspected the car & informed me it had thrown a piston & my whole motor would need to be repaired or replaced. charge was $3104.94 + car rental. i had an extended warranty which i purchased when i bought the car & it expired at 60,000 miles. i ask chrysler motor co if they know of any reason this would occur & if they would grant any portion of this expense? thank you *tr
