i own a 2002 chevy silverado 2500 on which i have four michelin ltx m/s 245/75-16 tires. after 18 months and 10,000 miles the sidewalls began to crack. i have michelin tires on all four of my vehicles and have never had one crack even on 6 year old tires. i called michelin, but they say that is normal weathering. now they are cracking to the point that the tread could easily separate. my tire dealer is going to replace them, but michelin will not reimburse them as michelin denies there is a problem. i see from online blogs that sidewall cracks in this tire are appearing all over the country and michelin is stonewalling it. this is a life threatening situation which should be investigated. *tr *js

i had a complete tread separation at 55 mph on the right rear tire of my 2002 silverado k2500 on 8/13/2011. the tire is a firestone steeltex lt245/75r16 inflated at 70 psi with 45,000 miles on it. it failed with just a small vibration warning. the consequences could have been fatal. we recovered the tread in the ditch. it and the tire is available. i replaced all tires with goodyear. our insurance company will pay for the bodywork damage. firestone must be held accountable for this defective, dangerous manufacturing. *tr

complete sudden tire failure sigma tire stampede radial as lt265r75/16, dot upw8 twt 3206 cp g04l the tire had about 28000 miles on it while mounted on my chevrolet 2500 four wheel drive crew cab truck right front wheel, and had 1/3 to 1/2 of the original tread remaining. i was on i-26 in south carolina traveling at about 70 mph. i felt a very slight vibration, just slightly different than normal road vibration and about 15 seconds later, the right front tire completely disassembled. the tread separated from the tire body between the two steel belts. fortunately i was in the right lane in light traffic, and was able to bring the truck under control without hitting anything, or rolling over. the tire was inflated to manufacturer's recommendations, and i had hit nothing that would have caused the tread separation. i had stopped for fuel about 20 minutes earlier, and the tires looked normal at that time. i was not hauling a load, or pulling a trailer at the time. in roughly a million miles or driving i have never had a tire fail like this, and don't ever want another failure like it. i have always had some sort of warning of an incipient failure. the tires were on the truck when i bought it about one and one-half years ago, so i don't know where they were purchased. i had the truck aligned twice, and the tires rotated as part of normal maintenance. the separated tread caused about $4000 damage to my vehicle. i have contacted sigma product liability and filed a report with them. *tr

three tires have been deflated while traveling at highway speeds on three separate occasions. this has been confirmed to have been caused by the valve stems, having cuts in them at the rim. after replacing the valve stems, although damaged, the tires all still held air. these goodyear tires were brand new in 2007 installed at a wal-mart service center. i am thankful i wasn't killed. *tr

i was towing my fifth wheel trailer when i noticed the truck started bouncing violently. i looked in my side mirror and noticed the rear wheel wobbling, so i pulled over and changed to my spare tire. i continued driving for approximately another 20 miles when the bouncing started again. it was the other rear tire. i had to call someone to bring me another tire in order to make it back home. i am putting (4) new tires on the truck. the truck is a 2001 chevy 2500hd with only 24000 miles on it. both tires have tread separation on them. *tr

my tire tread came completely off as i was going 70mph on florida turnpike yesterday, almost causing an accident, and ripped my whole plastic dust protector, (not sure of proper name) off. tires are firestone steelex at lt 245/75/r16 which had 40,000miles, but showed very little wear. aaa came and got me on the road again, but was really a frightening experience. any other complaints on these tires? these were the original tires on my chevy silverado which i bought new, and have maintained faithfully. *tr
