my truck is a 2004 chevy silverado 2500 with 94000 miles and the rear driver side exhaust manifold bolt head is busted off. this is not the only chevy/gmc 4.8,5.3 or 6.0 engine that has this problem. millions of others have this same problem and from this failure it can lead to future emission problems, catalytic converter problems, exhaust leak in the engine compartment leading to exhaust fumes being leaked into the cab of the vehicle which would be carbon monoxide poisoning. this is a major issue that gm should take care of as a recall !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr

my 2003 silverado pickup truck has been found to have a common and recurrent problem. exhaust manifold bolts break, and on the driver side rear, they can be expensive to repair. a few minutes of web searching on this topic produced a number of results and my conclusion is the issue is common. the online complaints also indicate that the success rate for the repair is not good, with many repaired vehicles having subsequent bolt failures. my vehicle is in an authorized chevy service garage having the bolts replaced. the original estimate was for $486, if cylinder head did not need to be removed. the service technician broke a tap off in the rear most bolt location. i don't know if it happened before head removal or after. it became necessary to remove the cylinder head and was requoted at $1600. a call was made to gm 3-6-12. the response was that my truck was out of warranty and there fore they could be of no assistance in the matter. i am certainly aware of the warranty terms. my issue is with the scale of this engineering/manufacturing defect and the cost to the owners. the issue can cause emissions problems due to catalytic converter failure and further expense. *tr

four exhaust manifold bolts have broken off since i've owned this truck and the manifold has cracked. it is a design flaw that occurs in many of the similar v8 equipped models and has been well documented on the internet. this should be recalled by gm. this problem also leads to faulty emission readings by the vehicle and the check engine light will go on and remain on until this expensive problem is fixed. *tr

two exhaust manifold bolts on a 2002 chevy silverado 2500 hd rotted and sheered off and one other does not seem to be as rusted and just broke off at the head of the bolt. this bolt failure could cause many issues, one being, possible fire in the engine compartment, or catalytic failure, o2 sensor issues, check engine light staying on. *tr

as millions of other complaints for this same problem my 2002 chevy 6.0ltr exhaust manifold bolt heads are snapping off and burned the gasket out which now fire shoots out the gap and the exhaust is now filling up in the engine compartment and traveling into the cab. also not to mention the emissions that are not being displaced properly and that it is ruining my catalytic converter. not only does this pose a huge fire risk the flame that shoots out is directed right at the engine coolant sensor and is burning it, someone somewhere has swept this problem under the rug it's time to address this before someone gets hurt. do it now !!!!!!!! demand a recall!!!!!!! do it now!!!!!!! *kb

my vehicle would stall out on me at any time for about 2 months it didn't matter what speed i was doing or where i was it would stall out so i would have to coast to the side of the road with no power steering and wait to crank the vehicle back up. then december 23 2008 i was on my way home and it completely stopped i couldn't get it to crank battery was completely dead and it was at night on a highway. i took it to every dealer ship and every mechanic and noone could tell me what was wrong with it. finally i looked online at recalls and found that there is a recall for the exact make and model of my vehicle but when i called gmc they told me that there was no recall for my vehicle so i went and paid out of my own pocket to fix this problem. this is a major problem that they have found but aren't doing anything about it for me i mean if they have the recall already for the same vehicle then why isn't my vehicle included? *tr

i have had a exhaust leak that i finally pinpointed to be broken exhaust manifold bolts. the truck was bought new by me and has never had any exhaust work done. now i have to take it to a dealer to have this expensive repair done. apparently this seems to be an extensive problem, with these bolts. this i understand to be an extensive repair. gm knows there is a problem with the bolts, why wont they make it right. *tr

i have a 2004 silverado k2500 with a duramax diesel (lly). i bought this truck new in september 2004. i pull a fifth wheel camper. my truck has overheated more than two dozen times, and on some occasions lost power, while pulling the camper up long grades. i reported this problem twice to chevrolet dealers. i have the service orders that clearly describe my overheating problem. both of these service calls were while the truck was under warranty, but the dealers could not fix the problem. later when the truck was out of warranty, i found out that general motors recognized the overheating problem and issued a service bulletin #06-06-04-036d that describes my heating problem exactly. this service bulletin was issued prior to either of my complaints about overheating. the cost of implementing service bulletin #06-06-04-036d is approximately $1,300 dollars, so general motors recognizes that this series truck has a significant overheating problem, but apparently they are hiding this fix from the owners until the vehicle is out of warranty. i can give many instances where this overheating problem has caused a safety problem. one time i was pulling the camper east on interstate 40 about a 150 miles west of albuquerque, nm when the truck overheated and lost power. there was no good place to pull over and i was terrified as the heavy traffic had to change lanes and pass me. another time i was pulling up to the north rim of the grand canyon on a two lane road when the truck overheated, lost power and i had a long line of traffic behind me. it was dangerous as the traffic passed me without good clearance. i could go on and on of similar situations that caused dangerous conditions. there is also a website at www.dieselplace.com that has an entire section devoted to the lly diesel. there are over a thousand posts concerning this overheating problem. *tr

i have a 2002 chevrolet silverado 2500hd lt ext. cab lb7 duramax 5 speed allison transmission, it has 114000 miles on it. this truck has been serviced as directed since new. the truck started using lots of fuel, at an idle it serged between 700 & 900 rpm's, and oil started blowing out the blowby tube. i have just found out that 3 fuel injectors are leaking fuel, with a possible head gasket leak, filling my crankcase with diesel, causing oil to blow out all over the truck, road and whatever else it can land on. while investigating what to do, to fix the truck i've found 3 other people i know that have duramax's, and they are going through the same problems. it's going to take me a year to save the money i need to fix this truck. i'm even going to do the work myself. in my opinion gm should be ashamed. they should at leased pay for the parts. the cheapest injectors i've found are $225.00 apiece with a $125.00 core charge. it's recomended that all 8 injectors be replaced at once. i've also been told these engines have defective head gaskets. that will cost another $600.00 for parts, and $110.00 for special tools i need to do the job. when i forked over the $40,000 cash inheritince money to buy this truck, i didn't signup for this. *tr

i own a 2002 chevrolet 2500 hd with the 8.1 (8100 vortec) engine. i had began having problems with the engine stalling while driving periodically. it became a frequent problem. i had the vehicle scanned at a local auto parts store with no fault codes showing. i learned the crankshaft position sensor was at fault by doing some online research. i also learned the same engine had a recall in 2001 and not 2002 the fact the vehicle stalls during operation is a serious hazard . chevrolet needs to take responsibility for this and recall these vehicles . i changed my own , but chevrolet needs to fix this fast before someone dies if they haven't already ! *tr
