was driving in my 2001 audi a6 to work, at about 45 mph, and when apply my brake, it suddenly went soft and the abs light came on, also the brake light on dash starts flashing. i performed a brake service but and it did not correct the problem, i then took the vehicle for a diagnosis and found out it had a faulty abs circuit and would cost around $2000 to repair. i later did a research and learned that these vehicles has a common abs problem, which the audi dealers would not answer to. i also learned this device were recall on the vw. are there anyone to protects us from this costly, faulty unit failure? *js

electromechanic parking brake broke 6 times in 4 years. a few times the brake won't disengage, having to literally drag the car on a platform to be able to take it to the dealer. since the first event i've never used the parking brake on purpose (the car is automatic) to avoid another malfunction but it would still break every few months. it's either the motors or wiring or both. it never happened to me while driving but dealer warned me that it could. the reason i'm filing the complaint is that it is not an isolated case. a quick google search "audi parking brake malfunction" will prove that the problem is widespread and it makes me think that they should have issued a recall but they didn't. *tr

multiple issues on this car that all came on about the same time. the amb/parking brake module/esp warning lit up, and a few days later the car was not shifting into gear on startup, and when it did shift into gear it shifted erratically and went into neutral on occasion. the transmission control module, abs sensors both went bad on the car and the car was unable to shift into gear. the car sat at audi len stoler in owings mills, md for 2 weeks for problem to be diagnosed. they said it was the transmission control module and the abs sensor that was bad. they replaced the abs sensor in the hopes that it would resolve the transmission problem! it did not. the bill for the abs, and a failed driver door lock switch replacement was almost $1400! the transmission control module is a small black box that has the circuitry that controls the transmission. the part alone costs $2600 and with labor it costs almost $4000 - quote from dealer. a 2008 wit 70k and a tcm fails? according to audi forums, this is a prevalent issue. audi needs to do the right thing and recall these cars and get this serious issue fixed. it is a design/quality control flaw. the tcm issue also causes the car to not shift right, or go into neutral while car is being driven. recall these cars before lives are lost (if they have not already been lost). these are significant safety issues and is happening with newer cars. my car has been dealer maintained since new and i am a meticulous owner that does not abuse the car. these are premature failures that should not be occurring at this age and mileage. *tr

audi complaint and recall request the anti lock braking system no longer works like it should. when the vehicle is started i get a solid amber abs warning light along with a flashing brake light accompanied with three warning tones. upon doing an internet search i immediately realized this problem with the bosch 5.3 abs control module unit is extremely common on 1998 to 2001 audi and vw models. audi/vw created a service bulletin to repair vw's in the same date range (bulletin 0517 nhtsa id number: 10016037), but ignored the issue with audi's. as per the vehicle's owner's manual, it states that while the system is in this state, the rear brakes may lock up under braking. this is a serious problem that will not allow me to brake quickly in emergency situations. the cost of replacing the abs module from the dealership was quoted at over $1000. a simple internet search reveals that thousands of audi owners have voiced complaints. this is a blatant disregard for their customer's safety and a recall should be required. *tr

parking brake disengaged on 3 occasions: button popped off parking brake handle, as if shot from a gun, and car rolled backward. 1st instance was prior to august 2012 but no damage because i was still in the car and stopped it. 2nd instance in aug. 2012 car rolled backward into another vehicle in a parking lot, resulting in damage to my rear bumper and extensive damage to other vehicle, which was parked. 3rd instance on 5/11/13, car rolled backward down driveway. i tried to get in the car to stop it, but was not able to stop it until the driver door was caught and ripped past its normal maximum opening, extensively damaged. in aug. 2012 after the 2nd incident, the emergency brake was checked by audi dealer, who said they could glue the button back on but reported nothing wrong with the parking brake apparatus. rear brakes were replaced as they were worn and dealer said the parking brake engaged the rear brakes and the worn brakes could have caused the failure. car has received all required maintenance from the same audi dealer. i am sole owner of car. after 5/9/13 incident, dealer refused to acknowledge any known defect, denied responsibility for damage, did not offer any sort of compensation for damage to vehicle(s) or to repair brake. *tr

i was driving my car in my work parking lot when a loud beep occurred and my car issued a warning for "parking break malfunction." two lights, esc and abs also lit up when the beep sounded. i immediately stopped driving, engaged the parking brake (which worked) and disengaged it. i am the second owner of the car and after some research found that the brake module and mmi both had been upgraded by the previous owner. i continued to witness these symptoms and am waiting for my dealership to run a diagnostic. i have read enough consumer complaints about this specific problem to know that audi should take a deeper look into it.

at approximately 6:00 pm the evening of february 10, 2013, i was returning with my mom (front passenger) on i-66e headed back home, a vehicle in front of me stopped suddenly because a vehicle in front of her stopped for no apparent reason. i engaged my brakes and had come to a complete stop without touching the car in front of me and then the next thing i know i came in contact with her bumper. we thought initially we had been hit from behind, however, after inspecting my rear bumper there seemed to be no indication that had occurred. even the driver in front of me acknowledged that i was at a stop before coming in contact with her bumper. what i believe occurred has to do with the audi braking system. i have raised this problem of the brakes skipping and other related issues on multiple occasions with audi's service department, audi u.s./ german corporate offices and audi "customer experience" center and according to my maintenance logs they have performed a variety of checks including updating the software and other repairs. this vehicle has been in repeatedly to the audi dealerships prior to this incident and after this incident for brake and gear issues amongst other problems. i still continue to have similar issues of the brakes not properly engaging, a lot of creaking/groaning noises/excessive break dust from the brakes and when i place the gear shift from reverse into drive it jerks forward. audi has been completely unhelpful and has done nothing to resolve the matters satisfactorily which i have been trying to do since shortly after the time of the incident in february. *tr

audi 2005 a6 started to have intermittent warning for abs, stability, hand brake at ~55k miles. took car to dealer to diagnose it . dealer called with an estimate of $2800 to replace abs module. he also provided an estimate of $1100 for another error code for airbag to replace the center rear seat belt. i'm not understanding why these warning codes come so randomly and clear so randomly. not sure why an audi a6 will need such repairs that clearly point to flaws in design and unreliable parts after only 55k miles. there are tons for online complaints from audi drivers that use the bosch 8.0 abs module. audi should either recall this part or offer to pay for the repairs. when i complained to audi usa, basically they asked if i was first owner and if i take it to dealer for maintenance. the answers for both is no. i'm the 2nd driver. bought the car with only 20k miles and since relocating to houston, i take the car to a local garage for oil change. i'm looking for safecar.gov to rectify the issue with audi. audi doesn't even sell the abs module part alone. you will have to buy the brake pump as well. *tr

as i approached a stop sign on the morning of tuesday, february 18th i went to use the brakes and the pedal was extremely hard. it wouldn't press down at all. i ended up running through the stop sign and coasting in to a parking lot where i turned the car off and on a number of times and engaged the emergency brake. the brake was still hard every time. i called audi experiences and by the time i had explained what happened the brakes began to work again. (for 15 minutes the brakes did not work!) i continued to drive the car that day but at a cautious speed. later that evening, around 8:50pm, i was driving home and again, the brakes refused to work, same hard pedal as earlier that morning. i called audi experiences and scheduled a tow pick up. audi services says that a vacuum hose has been damaged and causes the hose to collapse on itself causing the brakes to "lock up." they want to repair the same hose and use it again. it definitely needs replaced with a thicker hose that isn't going to collapse on itself and cause this to happen again. i believe this is a faulty hose and needs to be looked into. i have found a number of other people who have had the same issue happen to them. luckily i was not hurt and didn't hurt someone else. *tr

this is the third incident where the car came to a stop, with no throttle response, when i made a hard left turn (u-turn from a standing stop) instead of accelerating as expected. there appear to be several thousand similar complaints in your database, from many different makes, where the abs system cuts power to the engine instead of allowing a rapid acceleration from a standing start, when there is no traction problem, and cutting the power creates an immediate risk of crash by oncoming traffic. the car was 'dead' for about two seconds and then power was restored, allowing me to avoid being hit by oncoming traffic. but the bigger issue appears to be that the abs system will sometimes cut power for no reason, endangering the driver and vehicle. this is apparently widely documented and ongoing since at least the year 2000, and not specific to audi. updated 3/20/14*lj updated 03/20/2014 *js

i was traveling on the interstate and had to brake. as soon as i hit the brake pedal it fell to the floor and i fortunately was able to swerve to the shoulder and after hitting the brakes a few times them came back. about a week later my wife and kids experienced the same issue, again avoiding an accident. this seems like a common problem with posts on audi forum. they offered an extension on the vehicle warranty but that doesn't prevent someone getting killed due to malfunctioning brakes. *tr
