i have had many close calls in rainy weather when trying to stop in my 1998 audi a4 1.8t quattro. in dry weather braking is fine. this is a serious problem that needs to be addressed. i am more than certain i would have hit someone if i would not keep a greater distance knowing the horrible braking performance in wet weather.*jb

in searching for complaints filed for 2001 audi a4's i noticed a number related to very poor braking in wet weather. i experienced the same problem with my 2001 a4. audi does have a solution for this problem. the rotor backing plates must be replaced with a different design. when i brought it into the dealer for routine service and mentioned the problem no one in the dealership was familiar with the problem. a factory rep. was visiting the dealership at the time and was familiar with the problem. he ordered new backing plates which, i am told, can only be ordered by a factory rep. it took 3 months for the parts to reach the dealership. i haven't had the problem since the new backing plates were installed.*ak

audi 2001 a6 2.7t tiptronic while in d transmission mode, car does not accelerate per accelerator input after using the brakes. there is a delay of about a couple of seconds before car accelerates. this happens after braking from low speeds followed by gentle acceleration and also when braking from higher speeds followed by either gentle or aggressive acceleration. often there will be a pronounced jerk when the car starts to accelerate after the delay. *la safety issue typical situation: when crossing medians to merge with traffic in the opposite direction, oncoming traffic have to brake heavily to avoid a collision because the car is unable to accelerate smartly after braking. the same crossing in previously owned audi a4 1.8t and audi a4 2.8 (both without fly by wire throttle) could be safely negotiated without any acceleration delay. this situation is unacceptable and highly dangerous in normal everyday driving. references from audiworld.com forums it is apparent that there are many owners experiencing this problem. all have the audi tiptronic transmission and fly by wire throttle system, not limited to the 2.7t model. here is the link to the latest messages http://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/304185.phtml also, consumer reports have noted the delay in acceleration when testing this car. here is the link. http://www.consumerreports.org/main/detailv2.jsp?content%3c%3ecnt_id=302773&folder%3c%3efolder_id=97851&assortment%3c%3east_id=333137&bmuid=1066370138539 several other reviews in the u.s. automobile press have also noted the delay. repair local audi dealer is unable to offer a solution since their troubleshooting techniques only indicate a "no fault found" or "unable to duplicate" situation (several visits). escalation to audi headquarters elicits statements such as "working as per design, "safety feature (prevent over revving damage to engine/transmission)", and "system has to process a lot of data". *la

the brake squeals 90% of the time being applied, it happened since a few months ago. brought to a local dealer a few times for the problem and reported with "cannot replicate the problem" and "noise is normal for some brakes", while the problem is actually getting worse and now the brake is making the squealing noise even after releasing the brake and last for one or two seconds - it happened especially after the foot brake was applied for more than 15 seconds and then been released (e.g. after waiting at a red light).*ak

there is a sound of metal rattling towards the front end of the car. sounds as if something is going to fall off the car. audi could not identify the problem for 10 days and then said they identified the problem as front break pads coming loose. they repaired what they thought to be the problem. we returned to car to their service center 5 weeks later with the same problem. they can not identify what is wrong with the car and will not give us a guarantee in writing that the vehicle is safe to drive. my wife is 4 months pregnant and we are not comfortable having her drive a car with a front brake problem. audi is refusing to buy the car back.
