the abs module on my vehicle has failed. this problem seems to be quite prevalent amongst audi and vw vehicles. an abs failure could cause accidents and deaths. this module should be recalled. the problem begins with three beeps, a solid yellow abs light and a flashing red brake light. the warning may come on momentarily while i am driving and go away, but in most cases will become more prevalent as time goes on. sometimes the abs and brake light remain on. occasionally the abs activated (in other words abs braking has activated) while the car is in motion. from researching this problem, it seems to be common with audi a4 and vw passat b5 models. the abs warning light will come on each time the vehicle is operated. the sudden abs activation will occur rarely. the consequences of sudden abs activation is obvious; braking when not expecting it can cause tragic results. losing the abs functionality while driving and when it is needed can also cause tragic results. i took my car into the shop. a vag was hooked up and the following code appeared: "01203 - electrical connection between abs and instrument cluster" replacing the electrical connection between the abs and instrument cluster will not solve the problem. the only resolution for this issue is to buy a new abs unit, buy a used abs unit, or have the current control module rebuilt. again, systematic and widespread failures of the abs control module are occurring. numerous owners have filed complaints with regard to this issue. please look into the issue and consider recalling the module before it tragic results do occur. *tr

i drive a 1999 audi a6 avant which is our primary family car. while driving the car one day, the car's abs warning indicator light comes on and stays illuminated until the car is shut off. at the same time the red brake warning light flashes on and off until the car is turned off. this same thing happens every time the car is turned on. despite the flashing warning lights, the brakes operated normally on dry pavement. however, on wet, snowy pavement the abs did not work when braking for a stop. i called the audi dealer to make an appointment for this problem (and other issues) because i was concerned about the safety of the brakes especially during the winter. the person i spoke with at the audi dealership did not sound alarmed or very concerned about the warning lights for the abs and the brake. i asked again about the safety issue, and the person said i would be fine and made an appointment for me for two and a half weeks later. we drove the car carefully for the next two and a half weeks until our appointment at audi. before even looking at the car, audi service desk said that the warning lights were probably, more than likely the abs control module. i was told it would cost $975 to replace the abs control module. i didn't have the dealership replace that abs module yet because i needed other repairs first. after researching the abs control module online and after talking to a few people i realize that is a very common problem for this make and model car and for other audi cars but there is no recall campaign in effect for the batch of faulty abs modules. i live in minnesota where there is potential to be snow 5 months out of the year. i bought this car used because of all the safety features that are useful in snowy weather. to have the abs not functioning properly and then to realize that this is a common problem in this make of car seems to me to be a safety issue that should be addressed by the manufacture. audi should recall the abs module. thanks. *tr

abs control module has failed on my 2000 audi a6. from an internet search this appears to be an almost taken for granted repair/replacement item, i.e.; it happens to almost every vehicle. this is not an inexpensive item to replace (500-1300 dollars including labor). there are thousands of complaints, forums, blogs dedicated to this particular issue. i believe a recall is warranted. please investigate this issue. thank you. *tr

1. when the abs is activated during snow or ice conditions. 2. the brakes "stick" and the abs is not fully deactivated once your foot is off the brake pedal. often the rear driver side brake is still engaged slightly during driving. when stopped you can smell the rubbing brakes and you can tell the brake is rubbing while driving as it slows down the vehicle. it usually unsticks after several miles of driving or leaving the car sit overnight not running. 3. i've taken the vehicle to the dealer several times over the years, but they tell me that there is nothing wrong with the brakes or abs system. *tr

2001 audi tt convertible: the horn just stopped working one day, the instrument cluster display started to not display clearly then the car seem to lack power when starts up, car then would not start in the mornings, then the car would not start after being left for more than 20 minutes, and the car would often totally shut off while stopped at a red light then automatically turn back on again all by itself. the brake lights also stayed on at all times even when the car was completely shut off. ignition coils also caught on fire after check engine light was on for only a few hours. the convertible top warning light is flashing on the instrument cluster, and there is a rattling noise coming from the convertible top latch area while driving. consequences: dangerous life threatening situations, fear, stress, financial burden/hardship, time consuming, and extreme inconvenience. repairs: horn was repaired, instrument cluster was replaced, convertible top rattle and warning light not repaired, brake system was replaced, and coils all replaced. *tr

on my 2000 audi a4 the anti lock braking system no longer works. i get a solid amber abs warning light along with a flashing brake light accompanied with three warning tones when i start the car. after much research, this is a common problem on 1998 to 2001 audi and vw models. i have not heard of any recall, however there should be one. this is a serious problem that will not allow me to brake quickly in all situations especially winter conditions and the cost to get it replaced is far too much. *tr
