audi 2010 q7 tdi fuel filler problems. on several occasions, approximately 1 in 4 fuel stops (current mileage 9,200 miles), i have been unable to insert a fuel pump nozzle into the fuel filler neck on the vehicle due to a vertical bar just inside the filler opening. if fuel is dispensed, its is rejected onto the outside of the vehicle and ground. possible fire risk. in addition, using the vehicle in urban and rural settings all over the western us, i have been low on fuel and unable to refuel the vehicle risking running out of fuel far from another station. personal safety risk. audi does not have any explanation for the problem yet it should be corrected. i have called the dealer and searched the web for information and/or a solution to the problem. most recently, at a station at west yellowstone national park, i was able to overcome the locking bar with a knife and the fuel filler nozzle combined so i could release the bar and insert the fuel filler nozzle. audi says it is due to damaged fuel pump nozzles at fuel stations but this does not hold true since it occurs at stations where nozzles are nearly new and perfectly round. *tr

driving home after dark on a local boulevard at about 45 mph in our audi a3 tdi. vehicle suddenly lost all engine power. engine shut down completely. was able to coast to side of road. vehicle would not restart. vehicle was towed to dealer. dealer determined that the high pressure fuel pump "exploded" and quit working. this failure circulated metal particles through the vehicle fuel system. they are still reviewing with the audi, but dealer said that this happened to another tdi not long ago and audi had them replace the entire fuel system from the fuel tank to the injectors. vehicle is stall at dealer waiting on parts. if this had happened on the highway in traffic i don't believe i could have coasted to the shoulder and would have been stalled in traffic. *tr

while driving on to a free way on ramp at about 25-30mph, the engine indicator come on and started to flash, almost immediately the car stall in the middle of moving traffic. i did my best to steer the car into a safe area with no power steering before it came to a complete stop. i tried cranking the engine a couple of times but it would not restart. this is a very dangerous situation to be in, with fast moving vehicles passing by at high speed, i was lucky enough that i did not get rear ended or cause an accident. towed the car to audi of los angeles but it was already closed. they looked at it the next morning and found metal shavings in the diesel filter pod. they told me that the pump might gave out, they have to send fuel samples to get it analyze. this car is only a year old, how can the pump, fail already? *tr

our 2010 audi a3 tdi deisel lost power while traveling at 65 mph on an interstate highway. after pulling over, we were unable to restart the car. the car was towed to an audi dealer who informed us that the fuel pump had failed due to "contaminated fuel". we had put brand name diesel into the tank on every refill and have the receipts to prove it. *tt

as driving onto the highway, when accelerating to get to highway speed vehicle lost power went into limp mode and was not able to accelerate. was almost rearended by tractor trailer because of this ( had to pull onto the shoulder to get out of the way). also the glow plug indicator light started flashing and check engine light came one. took the car to the dealer ( audi of fairfield ct) they found that there was a problem with the hpfp metal shavings in the fuel system and they have to replace the entire fuel system. they also said that it might be from putting gasoline instead of diesel fuel, but i am sure i have always used diesel as i kept all receipts from gasstations. they will replace the entire fuel system at no cost to me, under the warranty, but i think it is a problem that needs to be addressed! thank you *tr

i own a 2010 audi a3 tdi. i was driving on a city street in normal traffic, began feeling hesitation/jerking in the engine, then the "glow plug" light came on just before the engine stopped running. ultimately the car stalled within 30 seconds following initial hesitation in a moving lane of traffic. i was barely able to get the car to coast up into a parking lot to safety and had to be towed into the dealer. it was in for repair for approximately one week. metal shavings were found in the fuel filter initially then throughout the entire fuel system, including the fuel tank which also had to be replaced. servicemen first suspected i had accidentally put unleaded in it which was absolutely not the case though i have heard from other owners who were accused of the same and forced to pay out of pocket for repair. i am the only driver and only go to highest quality stations with labels of "ultra-low sulfur diesel". if it doesn't state that then i have gone elsewhere. everything fuel-related was replaced under warranty. repairmen were unable to tell me how the metal shavings came about though they were insistent it wouldn't happen again. i have serious doubts since they did report, after i questioned them, that the exact same parts replaced the old ones. i am a high mileage driver which is why i purchased a diesel engine. my warranty will soon expire. when the same issue occurs again, if i still own the vehicle, i guess i will have to come out of pocket over $8000 which was the estimate on paper from the dealer. i hope audi further investigates the problem very soon and issues a recall so i can have peace of mind! *tr *kb

this is a tdi version of the q7. the high pressure fuel pump failed during normal use and sent metal parts through the fuel lines, through the fuel filter and into the combustion chambers. as a result, the engine ceased and we were left stranded in the middle of the road on a winding canyon road. the engine block was damaged; the crank shaft bent, the pistons damaged the heads and many other parts were destroyed. the car was repaired by an audi dealer and required all new fuel components (bumper to bumper) and a new engine. the car was in the shop for over a month. *tr

this complaint relates to a tdi version of the audi a3. while driving my kids to school, the car stopped dead and would not restart. on inspection by an audi dealer it was determined that the high pressure fuel pump had failed. the pump failure caused metal particles from the pump itself to circulate in the fuel system doing catastrophic damage to the fuel system and power train. as of this date, the car has been in the shop for repair longer than two weeks with no estimated date of completion. we experienced a similar catastrophic fuel pump failure with our audi q7 tdi in june of 2012 which required a new engine, fuel system and other parts (see odi # 10480946). according to the dealer, the reason for the delay in repairing the a3 relates to the large number of cars with similar fuel system failures which has caused a scarcity of parts. we have been told by the dealer that this same problem is happening to tdi vehicles from both volkswagen and audi. i am no engineer, but widespread fuel system failures seem potentially dangerous to drivers and their passengers. this problem deserves an investigation. *tr

while driving in seattle's notorious stop and go traffic, my a3 tdi, has stalled. it acts as if i have "dropped" the clutch, which is impossible being an automatic!!. this has happened to me on two occasions. there is less than 5k miles on my new car. both time it has gone immediately into university audi. first time, no answers. still waiting on diagnostics from today's episodes. *tr

car started but made horrible rattling sound then died and would not start again. car left me stranded over 60 miles from home on a sunday night on the memorial day weekend with a young child. the car had to be towed to dealership in austin. due to the late hour and holiday, no way to rent a car to get home, so i had to have someone come and get us. i was told by the dealership the fuel pump went out and basically exploded sending metal fibers into engine and other systems. given estimate of $7,500.00 to fix the car. service department acknowledged that this has happened before but refused to pay for the repair since my extended warranty ended at 100,000 miles, and my car was out of warranty by 4,600 miles. it is a design flaw, that if the fuel pump goes bad in a diesel engine that it will do so much damage to the engine. *tr

i own an audi a3 2011, tdi. i had two similar incidents with the fuel injection system with this tdi. the first time it happened when the cars just passed the warranty period of 50,000 miles. i drove this car in city street and the ?glow-plug? indicator light came on. i barely made it to the audi service. they told me that i contaminated with unleaded fuel. i told the service manager that is not the case because i only use one gas station and usually, i used the same diesel pump. after audi dealer talk to the audi of america, they decided to pay for the repair, approximately $8,000. then this is the second similar indecent. i started the engine and hear unusual clanking noise from the engine. i continued to drive the car in city street to my home. then suddenly the ?glow plug? lights momentarily flashes. the engine dies immediate right after. i coast the car to the curb. i took the car into the dealer, and after a day, the service manager again told me that the fuel system was contaminated with unleaded fuel. i assured you that this is not the case because i am the only one who drove this car. the service manager told me that audi did the analysis and it indicated that the fuel got contaminated, but continued to deny the accusation because i am very careful in using the ?ultra-low sulfur diesel? for my car. the first incident i only pour my diesel gas from shell station, but since the first incident had happened, i changed to chevron station. after one week, i called the service manager and ask him for the analysis of the contamination, and he said that he had sent to audi in germany for report. then i said i wanted the old injection system back so i can do an independent analysis, he also told me he sent the old parts back to germany for further analysis. i seriously doubted that the audi dealer service department did any analysis. *tr

filled audi q7 tdi 2010 model on 5/4/2011 with diesel fuel and made it about 3/4 of a mile and the vehicle started to rattle and shake hard, felt almost like a flat tire.....but then started to sputter and gurgle and then shut down completely, this took all but about 60 seconds once i felt the shaking, to the shutdown.......steering locked....not good....almost hit a parked car on the side of the road. vehicle died and stalled in the slow lane (for an hour) and would not restart.... what could have happened on a freeway....i hate to think....flatbed tow truck to dealership and was advised (3) three days later that the hpfp atomized into the fuel system and the system would have to be replaced....injectors, fuel lines, fuel tank, gas filler nozzle, etc. etc., i have an invoice 5 pages thick for this!! well, 28 days later suzie q, as we called her, was back. now..now..now... again!! yes, again, this has happened.....wed., january 8, 2014....almost an identical situation occurred.....filled audi q7 tdi 2010 model with diesel fuel and made it approx. 3/4 mile....(geese what a surprise!!) and sounding so familiar...yes?? just read again the previous paragraph and place it here.... identical, identical, situation to the "t" this time around, except a different gas station. dealer today, january 10, 2014 has informed me that, yes, indeed the hpfp has atomized again,....again,.. really. i want to lemon this pos that i paid $78,510.38 for and was touted by the dealership as almost bullet proof!! hah lol...i was a fool. never again buying an audi...unless this is made right. trade in for full value minus a little....sound ok?? *tr
