this car has been great to me. aside from a fuel pump going, just recently i was driving on the freeway and the car died. the epc light on the dash popped up and luckily i was able to coast to the side of the road. i attempted to start the car several times before calling aaa (15-20 min) while on the phone with aaa i attempted to start the car again and it fired right up. thinking it was just a one time issue i got back on the freeway where 10 mile or so later same the same thing happened. another 20 min of waiting before it cranked again at this point i was in a b ad area with my family and everyone was getting nervous. after it started the epc light stayed on this time and i experienced loss of power and the car coughed and stumbled terribly when i needed it most. i managed to make it home and let the car sit for a day. hoped in and it cranked right up. no problems 15 miles later it happened again. after talking with other valued audi owners and looking over the audi owner forums. i have found this to be a quite common problem with the audi across the range of there a series from 1997-2011. please help! *tr

driving on the freeway back to the hotel in las vegas from the west rim of the grand canyon, 100+ deg outside temp. sudden fuel cut off/loss power for about 1 sec. took it the dealership and the in tank fuel pump/control module failed thus cut off sending fuel to the engine. upon picking my vehicle the service advisor commented that several cars from california with cooler temperatures have had experienced this issue. this put me and my family in a very dangerous situation and compromised our safety. i've done some research and found out problem occurred on same year has my vehicle. *tr

hi audi refuses to fix this problem because my car is 2000 model , but it has 6 in the vin as for recall requirements in recall yup guys issued , i think 2000 models should be included also as i have same problem as for recall for 2001 models also as said before have that 6 in my vin number . can you please guys review this problem , as 2000 models should be covered . if that model has a 6 in its designation, you might want to have a look at its valve... nipples, because the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) says there is something wrong with them. silly jokes aside, the safety organization has just released a recall notice for certain model year 2001-2004 audi a6, 2002-2003 model year s6 and 2003 model year rs6 vehicles, all equipped with 4.2-liter v8 engines and manufactured from june 19th, 2001, until june 8th, 2004. a total of 5,992 audis bearing the number 6 in their title are affected and will be recalled in the states over a potential problem described as the rollover valve nipple. ?the aging of the plastic material in the fuel tank rollover valve combined with bending stress from the aluminum ventilation line to the rollover valve nipple may lead to cracking of the nipple,? the official nhtsa press release reads. as a result, a fuel leak may happen according to audi, which could eventually lead to a fire if an ignition source is nearby. it?s nice to know that the german carmakers make mistakes too - it lets us now that they are human as well. the recall is expected to begin during june 2011. to fix the problem, dealers will reinforce the nipple on the rollover valve to prevent leakage or repair the nipple crack. it's highly recommended that you leave your cracked nipples to be inspected by a professional and not do it yourself. *tr

this is a tdi version of the q7. the high pressure fuel pump failed during normal use and sent metal parts through the fuel lines, through the fuel filter and into the combustion chambers. as a result, the engine ceased and we were left stranded in the middle of the road on a winding canyon road. the engine block was damaged; the crank shaft bent, the pistons damaged the heads and many other parts were destroyed. the car was repaired by an audi dealer and required all new fuel components (bumper to bumper) and a new engine. the car was in the shop for over a month. *tr

this complaint relates to a tdi version of the audi a3. while driving my kids to school, the car stopped dead and would not restart. on inspection by an audi dealer it was determined that the high pressure fuel pump had failed. the pump failure caused metal particles from the pump itself to circulate in the fuel system doing catastrophic damage to the fuel system and power train. as of this date, the car has been in the shop for repair longer than two weeks with no estimated date of completion. we experienced a similar catastrophic fuel pump failure with our audi q7 tdi in june of 2012 which required a new engine, fuel system and other parts (see odi # 10480946). according to the dealer, the reason for the delay in repairing the a3 relates to the large number of cars with similar fuel system failures which has caused a scarcity of parts. we have been told by the dealer that this same problem is happening to tdi vehicles from both volkswagen and audi. i am no engineer, but widespread fuel system failures seem potentially dangerous to drivers and their passengers. this problem deserves an investigation. *tr

after reaching an appropriate speed on a highway, i eased off the gas pedal but the car continued to accelerate. i removed my foot from the gas pedal entirely but the pedal stayed down. i shifted the car into neutral, turned on my hazards and pulled over to the breakdown lane. i got out of my car and checked the still depressed pedal to see if anything was obstructing it and there was nothing. i pulled the pedal up and the engine stopped revving. *tr

strong fuel fumes are present inside the car's cabin while driving or stationary with the engine both on and off. upon inspection by an automotive tech, fuel is dripping from the fuel tank area on the driver's side under the rear seats. fuel will continue to drip out until the fuel tank is at about 1/2 full. the rear seat bench was removed to gain access to part of the fuel tank and there is visible wet spots from fuel spilling out the tank. the tech found a hose that connects to a plastic valve on the fuel tank. the plastic valve is cracked and is leaking fuel. there is a recall from the manufacturer to repair this problem for the vehicles made in 2001 and newer but not 2000. the 2000 a6 is identical to the 2001 a6, why isn't a 2000 covered in this recall? please amend the recall to cover 2000 a6 cars. *tr

i'm 26, mother of a 9 yr & 14 mo old. currently, i'm unemployed and i can't afford to pay $2,500 to repair the fuel pump that audi initially installed in my car. i was so excited to buy this audi used 4 yrs ago with 80,000 miles. this has been the most costly and the most unsafe vehicle i have owned...stalling out was not fun and very scary. audi dealerships have been trained well to deny owning up to the car's defects. is audi waiting for an accident to happen and people/children die? i guess the cost of paying for the court cost when someone dies is not a big worry for the company - probably cost more to have the cars recalled & safely repaired than to pay for court & funeral cost. i'm sure audi has been aware of this problem since 2003 and refuse to own up to their 2003 mistake flowing over to the 2004 models. it makes no sense that audi won't "step up to the plate" and have a recall. maybe the audi company really can't repair the car and the problem will always exist? i would hope they have smart engineers that could fix the problem. audi really is coming across as having poor customer concerns for our safety. what a shame, i can barely make ends meet and now, i can't even afford to take my car out of the shop...but, maybe it's a blessing - at least, my children and i are safe by not driving that car. come on audi - recall now before some dies!!! and, what is the vehicle safety folks doing for us??? i just an angry mother hoping someone will listen & with the belief that the nhtsa can help...i wish i had never bought this car, i'm still making monthly payments for the car that i'm scared to drive now. i'm wondering by venting on this site, if audi even gets this information? this is a "no kidding" matter that should be taken seriously and fixed as soon as possible by the responsible company to show that they really care for their customers! *tr

car brought in for misfire condition that resulted in power reduction/hesitation while driving. dealer detected faulty injector. replaced injector and engine was still malfunctioning. dealer then removed cylinder and observed piston ringland damage. vehicle was starting to exhibit excessive oil consumption problems. either faulty injector or piston ring defect is suspected to cause damage. looking into remedies through arbitration or other means as audi is aware about (i.e. undersized rings / pistons). i will retain all suspect parts as audi will not honor under warranty terms and independent shop will be performing repairs, and can be made available for further investigation. excessive oil consumption is a known issue with audi usa. the manual states that normal consumption is up to 1 quart for every 1000 miles. per audi's recommendations, you will burn 10 quarts of oil before you need an oil change. that engine holds 5 quarts when not leaking it through rings, reducing anti-knock rating of fuel during combustion. i believe this a significant safety hazard as engine seizing could unexpectedly occur due to defective components. i believe a class action lawsuit is inevitable. *tr

there was a loud noise coming from the rear area of my vehicle. when i got in my vehicle i noticed that there was a high pitched noise coming from the back seat area. when i took it to my mechanic he said that the fuel pump was going and it would need to be replaced. the car ran ok and the noise went away when the weather was warmer but has recently returned with the cooler weather. i looked online and saw a technical bulletin/recall for my make and model. when i dug deeper into the associated documents i found my vin number matched the numbers in the documents. audi said they had no records of this (although they were on audi letterhead) and said i could take it to the dealer but would have to pay for the diagnostic. this does not match what is written in the recall notice. *tr

mine is a well-maintained, near-pristine, low-mileage car. without warning or prior indication of a problem, the transmission suddenly ceased to operate correctly while traveling on a busy, four-lane urban highway. it resulted in the car having limited forward motion, poor control, and vastly diminished power, making it extremely difficult to maneuver in traffic. i narrowly avoided a collision with other cars. i managed to drive the car back about 20 miles to my residence in the limp-home mode--one forward gear, the engine revving between 3000 to 5000 rpm's with the forward speed no more than 35 mph. i parked the car and left it for a week while traveling. when i returned it would not move in any gear. i had it towed on a flat-bed truck to an audi dealer. the problem was diagnosed as an inoperable, unrepairable transmission brought about when "a bolt separated from the transmission housing causing a hose to leak transmission fluid which resulted in burnt parts and gears. the cost of a new transmission was $6,800--on a car with only 50,546 miles! after reporting the incident to audi corporate, i was informed that audi could not be held responsible for this event because there were "no open campaigns or service actions" relative to this model. i was very dissatisfied with this response since i have been a long-time audi owner/driver of the a8 and other models. my internet research indicates that the transmission of the a8-d2 models (1997-99) has been a very weak component part on these cars. please help. *tr
