2004 acura tl at has soft and spongy brakes. braking seems useless under hard-braking conditions. it all started when i had to hit the brakes to avoid hitting road debris, abs went into action and the car stopped in a dime, however, a few days after the event, i noticed the brakes getting spongy and soft. i went to get my brake pads and rotor changed along with a brake fluid change. it worked fine for a week but then it went back to soft and spongy. i had a situation where i had to brake hard for a beautiful l.a commuter who cut me off and there was almost to pressure whatsoever on the brakes, no abs, no tire screeching, it just glided to a stop. i knew something was wrong. i took it to the dealer and they found out it was the vsa modulator, which was injecting air into the brake lines ever so often. apparently it happened when the abs kicked in, they said it would have faulted the vsa system. the part was replace under warranty, but that's because i purchased an extended one from acura. i afraid there are other tls with the same issues having to pay close to 2000 dollars for parts that are so critical and yet defective. *tr

i own a 2006 acura rsx. i was driving at 40 mph on the new york state thruway yesterday (12/9/09) morning at approximately 6:55am. it was raining and the road was slushy. i was driving slowly in the right lane and my car spun all the way around to the right and my front bumper hit the right corridor of the thruway. my car then kicked backwards and spun around in a complete circle again and my back bumper hit the right corridor. prior to this acura, i had a 2001 acura integra. the same exact problem occurred. i spun out and totaled my car. clearly this is not a safe car and i need this to be brought to light to save lives. if there was another car near me on both occasions, i would have died. *tr

driving on city street 1 block from entering freeway i felt a strange grabbing and vibration type sensation from my 2005 mdx. a few feet further the car felt like i had stepped on brakes and gas at the same time and literally stopped in the middle of the street. the car behind swerved and barely missed me. i managed to get the vehicle to the side of the road and called acura roadside assistance. had i been on the freeway this would have caused a multiple car collision the roadside assistance was wonderful but i feel that since i only have 70,000 miles on this car; this should not have happened and the locking of the wheels at any speed is unacceptable. the repair was a replacement of the modulator assembly abs/vsa at a cost of $$1653. i just keep wondering what would have happened had i been on the freeway driving 70 miles per hour. *tr

my complaint is about safety issue with 2007 & 2008 acura tl type s car model. the dealer courtesy acura and the manufacture acura are fully aware that acura tl type s car is extremely dangerous and unstable car on snow. i purchased a "certified used" 2007 acura tl type s car for $28,899 from courtesy acura of littleton, co on mar 12, 2010. the acura tl experienced the 1st snow on april 22, 2010. the car performed extremely poor on snow and lost ctrl several times. the car jeopardized the safety of school kids when it lost ctrl in the school premises. no other car had problems in that snow since the snow was melting. i immediately spoke to nick velasquez (gm at dealership) regarding the safety issues. nick asked me to bring the vehicle for inspection. ms. michelle, service rep, at courtesy acura told me that acura tl type s is known to perform poorly on snow due to its design, suspension and power at front wheels. mr. gary, acura tech told me that acura tl type s is a dangerous car on snow even with snow tires. this caused me lot of concern. nick said that his employees namely ms. michelle and mr. gary from service dept. were giving their personal opinion on safety of car. i demanded refund of my money but the dealership refused to give money back. the only option they gave me was to trade the car with basic 2007 acura rdx suv at an additional cost. i ended paying $7,595 more than market price for 2007 acura rdx. i also spoke to another owner and he also told me that his car is extremely dangerous to drive on snow. i filed a written complaint (case # [xxx] ) with acura client services and on june 16, 2010 spoke to ms. katrina (ext 115093) from client services department. ms. katrina refused to acknowledge snow handling issue with acura tl type s. i would request nhtsa to perform safety test on 2007-2008 acura tl type s on its snow handling capabilities as the car is extremely dangerous and can cause serious accidents. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

tl* the contact owns a 2005 acura mdx. the contact stated that while driving 55 mph, he heard a grinding noise and the vehicle pulled to the passenger┐s side and decelerated independently. the contact stated that the failure recurred the following day while driving 45 mph. after a third failure, the contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer. the contact stated that nhtsa campaign number: 13v092000 (service brakes, hydraulic, traction control system) was previously done on the vehicle. after the repairs were completed, the tpms , vsa, and traction control lights illuminated then the failure recurred. the contact had the vehicle towed back to the dealer who revealed a yaw sensor code via the diagnostic test. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the failure mileage was not available. *tr

defect investigation ea13002 has 1 related recall nhtsa campaign id number: 13v092000 my car was not experiencing any problems at the time of this recall but i did take it in to have the service completed in june 2013. a couple of months ago my car started acting exactly as described in the complaint. while driving anywhere from 45-50 mph, the brakes will engage on their own, jerking the car to the side and the vsa warning light as well as the sh-awd drive light will come on in the car. this happens on a consistent basis, at least every 3 days, sometimes every day. apparently the problem still exists because the recall fix has not prevented this from continuing to happen. i took my car in to the local acura dealership for diagnosis and was told the yaw rate sensor is giving poor information to the ecu and stability control system and i am supposed to pay $1050.00 to have a new yaw rate sensor installed. i do not understand why i would be responsible for paying for this when it is a defect and can cause injury to me or other passengers on the road. *tr
