i was driving in icy conditions this morning when my acura warning lights flashed on that the vehicle stabilization system and antilock brakes were not operating. i drove for a few more blocks and stopped the car to call the dealer. the service department said: "this happens under icy conditions. turn off the motor and see if these systems come back up. if they don't you can bring it in." in fact, the systems did return to normal once the car was turned off and re-started. but, what if i was driving on an icy highway. aren't antiliock brakes and vehicle stabilization systems precisely needed for just such conditions. if this is a "common problem" for the acura dealer, shouldn't this be reported and the problem fixed in a recall? it makes no sense that these systems should fail under the precise conditions when they are most needed. *tr

while driving the vehicle the vsa light came on and vehicle started to make weird noise (by the gas and brake pedal) and then the vehicle would stop by itself. call the dealer and they say it was due to the tire being in a puddle of water for a long period. it rained today and my vehicle was parked outside but the puddle of water was no deeper than 1 in. i was very fortunate that they were not any vehicles following behind me when the car stopped all of a sudden. please advise and check the issue with the vsa system since there are a lot of threads on google and yahoo search engine in regards to problems with acura's vsa system. this is not the first time this incident had occurred. *tr

auto damper system on 2008 mdx stops working due to sensor problems in shocks/ struts. auto damper system adjusts shock sensitivity to road conditions and has two modes, comfort and sport. when the system malfunctions the shocks/struts default to a given sensitivity. the danger occurs if the driver believes that he/she is in sport mode and the system malfunctions while driving it could cause a wrong interpretation of the road and potentially hamper the safety of the driver/passengers. my mdx has had regular failures in the sensors, i have conversed with several other mdx owners and this is a problem that occurs on a regular basis. *tr

my complaint is about safety issue with 2007 & 2008 acura tl type s car model. the dealer courtesy acura and the manufacture acura are fully aware that acura tl type s car is extremely dangerous and unstable car on snow. i purchased a "certified used" 2007 acura tl type s car for $28,899 from courtesy acura of littleton, co on mar 12, 2010. the acura tl experienced the 1st snow on april 22, 2010. the car performed extremely poor on snow and lost ctrl several times. the car jeopardized the safety of school kids when it lost ctrl in the school premises. no other car had problems in that snow since the snow was melting. i immediately spoke to nick velasquez (gm at dealership) regarding the safety issues. nick asked me to bring the vehicle for inspection. ms. michelle, service rep, at courtesy acura told me that acura tl type s is known to perform poorly on snow due to its design, suspension and power at front wheels. mr. gary, acura tech told me that acura tl type s is a dangerous car on snow even with snow tires. this caused me lot of concern. nick said that his employees namely ms. michelle and mr. gary from service dept. were giving their personal opinion on safety of car. i demanded refund of my money but the dealership refused to give money back. the only option they gave me was to trade the car with basic 2007 acura rdx suv at an additional cost. i ended paying $7,595 more than market price for 2007 acura rdx. i also spoke to another owner and he also told me that his car is extremely dangerous to drive on snow. i filed a written complaint (case # [xxx] ) with acura client services and on june 16, 2010 spoke to ms. katrina (ext 115093) from client services department. ms. katrina refused to acknowledge snow handling issue with acura tl type s. i would request nhtsa to perform safety test on 2007-2008 acura tl type s on its snow handling capabilities as the car is extremely dangerous and can cause serious accidents. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

car was purchased march of 2010 with 69k miles. transmission failed in january of 2011 at approx. 73k miles. dealer replaced transmission for $1800, after informing us that transmission was replaced by previous owner at approx. 60k miles. just 13k miles prior. after less than 1 week after transmission is replaced, iac valve was replaced due to unstable rpm. i have never heard of a transmission failing after only 13k miles, nonetheless, a car having at least two transmissions replaced after only 73k miles. for all i know, the transmission should have never failed yet, i should not have had to pay for the repair because acura cannot fix the problem, and this car should not be bought, sold, or driven.

the vsa (stability control) system on my 2004 acura tl malfunctioned. the system would cause the right front brake to activate by itself, causing the car to severely swerve to the right. after a half-second or so, the vsa would disengage and the fault indicator would light up on the dashboard. the acura dealer was unable to diagnose the problem because vsa fault codes are not stored in the vehicle's memory after the car is restarted and the system automatically resets. this resulted in having to continue to drive the car until the fault re-occurred. i was able to take the car directly to dealer and they are trying to fix this problem. the problem was traced to a yaw rate sensor in the vsa system. acura should make this information available to dealers. this poses a serious safety problem at highway speeds and there is nothing a driver can do to predict or prevent when this problem will occur. *tr

engine noise: a vibration and low buzzing sound in 5th gear caused by normal engine vibration at around 1,500 rpm, requiring a vibration damper near the rear motor mount. also causing vibration on steering wheel at normal highways speed limits. and causing tires to cup and get bald. very dangerous to drive on freeway causing steering to be very erratic due to vibration from front and rear broken engine mounts. check-engine light: the check engine light may illuminate and a trouble code for the coolant sensor may be stored, but the problem is most likely a software glitch in the engine control module brakes: brake pedal may feel spongy or have excessive travel due to air in the brake lines requiring replacement of the vsa modulator. (2004-06) total repair cost so far... item name repair cost a/c compressor $1,320 alternator $780 automatic transmission or transaxle $3,460 brakes $1,320 exhaust system $890 radiator $920 shocks and/or struts $3,200 timing chain or belt $1,050. *tr

for a couple days my car would begin stalling while i was driving on the highway. i felt like it slowed down to shift out of gear but never completely shifted. then, one day when i was driving, on my way home my car slipped out of gear completely and i couldn't drive forward. my car only allowed me to go in reverse. 2after allowing it to sit for a while it would drive but while trying to drive home it constantly slipped out of gear which was very dangerous especially when it happened at an intersection. *tr

was driving my vehicle which i just purchased on may 26th 2012, and my car began to have shifting problems in 2nd and third gear racing rpms and would not stay engaged in 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th gear and violently downshifted into second gear at freeway speeds causing me even restrained by the seat beat to fly into the steering wheel and windsheild bumping my head and hurting my back due to whip lash. this occurrence happened several times. then the d5 would start flashing and check engine light became lite. after calling acura customer care, brian informed me of the recall that had to do with this matter and was supposedly fixed. my car is unsafe to drive because of the rapid change of speed at the cars desire. i could injure not just myself but others around me. *tr

turned corner in large center city and hit a construction large pot hole and/or obstruction on the left rear. after completing turn onto a narrow one-way street acceleration increased, brakes did not work, engine could not be turned off, gears could not move. after going through two major intersections without accident i kept pulling on the emergency brake. the car slowly stopped and was then perfectly normal. could use the brakes, shift, etc. i parked overnight in a garage. had the car towed to dealer the next day (7/21/12), where it is still unresolved. dealer said car is ok, but is now being analyzed by acura corporate engineers. i had three other people who were in the car at the time, including my wife, who will not ever go into this car. the car was only 10 days after purchasing. *tr

on an unobstructed road no traffic in front the vehicle will apply brakes, activate seat belt restrains and signal that an object is in front when there is nothing. it is triggered by road repairs steel plates. dealer service was able to reproduce but claims this is normal as per mfg technical department. this is not our first vehicle with collision avoidance system the other vehicle does not gets these error messages under wet or icy/snow conditions this could be very dangerous. *tr

the brake will apply on its own and the brake lights will not come on because you don't press the pedal which would trigger the brake switch to turn the brake lights on. this is a very serious issue as it has happened to me numerous times at high speed. note i sent to acura during the uncommanded brake issue, it describes the issue etc.. this is , i had brought my 2005 mdx which i bought new from you back in 2005 in for the uncommanded brake application issue on feb 10th 2010. as you know when this issue happens the brake applies itself when my foot is on the gas pedal and sometimes the vsa and ! light come on and sometimes they do not. on the 10th i drove the car with you mechanic and we had a brief experience of the issue but because of traffic i had to apply the brake and when my foot was off of the brake it still applied itself and then released and then applied again without me touching the pedal. the most serious of the issues is when my foot is on the gas and the brake applies itself. on that day your mechanic did a bunch of tests from the service manual for dtc 66 & 68 including: -- "the jiggle" test to see if something was loose and would trigger a code -- battery test for voltage -- ground connection to body clean and reset -- vsa connector was taken off and put back on -- codes were reset there is more but the length is greater than allowable maximum of '1,901'. *tr

i am writing because i just received a safety recall notice from acura relating to: nhtsa action number : ea13002. my daughter was involved in an accident (she's ok!) where she had to swerve to avoid an oncoming car that had drifted into her lane rounding a left hand bend. our 2005 acura mdx went out of control despite her attempts to control the vehicle, which she did after it had blown out two tires. could her braking and swerving result in the subsequent over correction of our mdx and be the result of the vehicle stability assist control module malfunctioning as described in the recall notice from acura. *tr
